Getting some understanding of the immune system and how it works

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now and came across a book that I am finding very useful. I am working my way through it and marvel at the way the immune system operates. There is also what happens when it becomes dysfunctional - something we have experience of.

If anyone is interested it’s called Immune by Philipp Dettmer (Hodder & Stoughton). He also has a UTube channel ‘In a Nutshell ‘ where you can see the first chapter of the book.

I thought I would like to share this info for anyone interested.

Sounds like a terrific book - wish my local library stocked it

Hi winfong , that’s a shame. I’m in the UK and the book only came out here in November 2021 so might not be out wherever you are. If you can get YouTube he has put the first chapter on his channel. He also does science type stuff on it .

Hi Egre, thank you for your post. I have found the book on Amazon, but there are 2 books by that author. “Immune and Journal” or just “Immune”. Which one would you recommend? Thanks Suzy

Hi the book I’ve got is just called Immune. Mine cost £25 from an independent bookshop but I did see them in Waterstones

Ok that is great, thank you. Is it multi coloured in appearance?

Yes it’s bright orange with a red man with coloured pictures of cells! It also says on the front - A journey into the mysterious system that keeps you alive

I have tried to read up on the immune system from time to time. It is a truly remarkable system but also very a complex one. It's not the easiest thing to understand if you are not medically trained. If the book is aimed at the layman then it sounds great

Hi. Chris it’s the first one that explains things in a way I can understand. Can’t speak for anyone else but it brings the immune system together as a whole. Each chapter builds onto the next one. What I’ve read before in articles etc is very ‘bitty’ and too technical. This still gives all the points but in a style that is a lot more manageable.
