Boosting the immune system! Any suggestions?

My immune system is low, partly due to autoimmune conditions but also perhaps to prednisolone. I am happy to try something. Currently taking little pots of yoghurts that are thought to help. What do other Health Unlocked members take?

I don't take anything to boost my immune system as this makes my RA and Vasculitis worse. I'm on Pred, MTX and Leflunomide. They help keep the inflammation down.

"Boosting the immune system" is really not a good idea if you are on an immunosuppressant medication - for obvious reasons. Some of the supplements that claim to do so do have warnings not to use them with such medications.

A good balanced diet in between flares is what is suggested for those of us with IBD. I eat bio yoghurt (doesn't have to be those expensive little pots - we make our own using Yeo Valley or Greek-style as a starter) quite often, also porridge with proper honey. In fact, lots of stuff with honey! Beekeeper's tip: don't fork out for the expensive manuka honey - the honey you get from your local beekeeper has all the beneficial properties, too!

I'm glad I asked! Thank you very much for your responses!

Hi WMTuk, I asked a similar question recently, although it was more about being healthy than boosting immunity. I got some very comprehensive answers. Here's the link to my post. healthunlocked.com/vasculit...

You might find some of the responses interesting too. I also agree with the others who have answered your post. (Except for honey as it has a bad reaction with me.)

Take care.

Dear WMTuk,

I'm glad hat you asked, this question, rather than buy one of the many 'immune Boosters', on the market. Even for people in 'good' health results are, to say the least, questionable but to us.......Just DON'T even think about it, no really!!!

Being on Imuno-suppressants and then trying to 'boast', your immune system is rather like pouring liquid nitrogen into a furnace-rather silly, at the very very least! It could, very well, permanently damage the furnace-maybe even beyond repair. Now, let's be clear about the facts here, in this analogy YOU are the furnace!

If I have scared the s..t out of you, I'm sorry, but if it HAS SPOPPED you from, potentially anyway, killing yourself then I'm not really that bothered about having upset you!

Please do feel, more than free, to ask for further advice from this 'Forum'-it's what we are here for.

Sorry, once again, if I upset you-best wishes.
