Heavy legs

I have Urticarial Vasculitis (around 28years) and have for around 6 months have been having cramps in my calves ankles and feet ( and occasionally in other parts of my body ,although they seem to have stopped ) now my legs are feeling heavy and I do get pins and needles in my feet ,

The cramps do go away if I stand up but as they mainly happen during the night it disturbs my sleep. My ankles and feet are fine when I first get up, but very soon they become swollen,I realise it could well be my veins are not so good now , but wondered if anyone else has this and how they deal with it,

I would like to think I could ring my GP to get to see him but the recorded message at the surgery before you even speak to anyone ,says under no circumstances will face to face appointments be given.

I have great faith in replies and help we get with this group so thought I would ask here first.

I don’t feel ill at the moment ,and I am not in any pain and am not taking any medication ( except for an under active Thyroid )but wondered if this is part of our Vasculitis or likely to be just another problem to add to the list . Many thanks for any advice you may have.

Try a Magnesium supplement. It can be very helpful for cramp.

That’s the way of these extra medical issues isn’t it!, that’s why it’s helpful to ask others in the group, and almost always without exception someone else has got it ,has had it ,or knows someone else that has had it , and sometimes someone has an answer, Today for me it’s a good day, no swelling no heaviness , but it’s early yet ,so who knows!!! So together my fellow sufferer ,we plod on and maybe we will learn something .hope you have a good day and thank you for your reply .

I have MPA and similarly I had calf and foot cramps when my vasculitis was active. Always worst at night. I also had swollen ankles but it was more of a sporadic thing, one ankle at a time. All of this went away as I started to go into remission. Might be worth getting checked out even if it is just to do a set of bloods (if they can find a sample tube 😄)

Hi Chris, I am booked for blood test next week at the hospital ,I have them 3 monthly , which is just as well ,because I am told my surgery are not doing blood test ……….they have no tubes 😱 , maybe something will show , although as is often the case with bloods they come back “ normal “ but always worth a look . Hope you are well now .
