What does it mean if you have Paucci Immune Vasculitis?

I was hoping the consultant might be more specific in telling me the type of vasculitis I have. My own research seems to suggest Microscopic Polyangilitis but on my kidney biopsy it only says Paucci Immune Vasculitis.

Thanks

Hi might be worth ringing the helpline as they will be able to explain it in more detail and answer any of your queries ? They are very approachable and have excellent knowledge of all things vasculitis related.

I have Microscopic Polyangitus (MPA), although Paucci is not a term I have previously come across. Having a quick look at good old Google it does appear to be a term used to describe how the biopsy sample presents under examination. It does seem to suggest the diagnosis is MPA.

Thanks for the reply. How long have you had MPA? I have had tests, diagnosis and started treatment in the matter of ten days. From what I read I have been really lucky so far. I am on pernisolone and mycophenolate was this the same for you?Dave

Hi Dave, if you look at my profile it will give you a potted history of my battle with vasculitis. Your initial treatment regime seems a bit unusual. You would normally start with a stronger immunosuppressant than Mycophenolate. That is normally used as a maintenance drug once your vasculitis is in remission. It is important that you are treated by a consultant experienced in vasculitis. It is very rare disease and knowledge can be thin on the ground. Chris

Pauci-immune GN is a form of small vessel vasculitis classically associated with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis (RPGN). 123. On renal biopsy the hallmarks of the disease are the presence of crescents and segmental necrosis on light microscopy, and absence of immune deposits on immunofluorescence microscopy.I hope this helps
