I have just been informed via anNHS colleague that vitamin D is being recommended to the general population due to lockdown and lack of sun light etc. Any thoughts ?
Thank you

Lockdown or not - I take 25mcg a day all winter. In the UK you don't (can't) make vit D from sun between October and April - even in the SE - and I live in northern Italy where theoretically we can make vit D all year round. Nevertheless, despite being in the sun for the supposed 10 mins a day without sunscreen all year round and far more in spring to autumn, unless I take a supplement my vit D level falls steadily. And the older you get - the more likely that is.
Since finding out I had a B12 & Vit D deficiency whilst living in India 5 years ago, I have taken it everyday since in a 25mcg dose. Feel so much better than I did back then when it was all I could do to get out of bed.
My pain management consultant told me just before all this started to go home, hibernate for 3 months and to open the windows and take vitamin D. I didn’t enquire further as I have vitamin D in my calcium pills I take daily.
You may well need a bit more than the calcium supplements have, it is not even enough for the daily amount you need. But don't take extra combined supplements - add another 1000 IU just vit D. I took both supplements and extra vit D.
