Prednisone

Can prednisone cause low blood pressure !

And because I have an underlying illness I have no way of raising it myself, because if I do I get infections or colds etc....

Prednisone can cause blood pressure to go higher in some people. I've never read or heard anything about it causing low blood pressure. It can also increase blood sugar levels to the point of diabetes, so be on the lookout.

I have GPA and adrenal insufficiency. My blood pressure Is low. I have asked my endocrinologist , but so far she hasn't got an answer.

I have researched and being active and drinking plenty of fluids may help. So far, I still have the problem.

If you find the cause, I would be interested.

The short answer, to your question, is 'yes it can'. However it is, more usual, to Raise blood pressure. You don't say what Other Medications, you are on, and these, along with your 'Underlying Condition' could, very well, be the cause. If I were you, I would raise/mention, this issue, with your Doctors/Consultants.

You don't say 'How Long' you have had your Condition, or indeed what it actually is, which makes trying to make a Sensible Answer quite difficult. Please don't think that I'm trying to 'Push you away' or 'Put you off', I just don't want to offer the wrong advice. Maybe you could Give us more details, please? I promise that we won't 'Bite'.

Dear Talos: Adrenal insufficiency causes low blood pressure. Sometimes long term use of Prednisone causes adrenal insufficiency. First the Prednisone tends to do the work of the adrenal gland and then the adrenal gland gets lazy. The adrenal gland can get more active when the Pred. dose is gradually lowered, and the adrenal gland is called upon to work more, but it takes time. As Andrew T. said--Tell the experts on here more about your situation. I am not an expert. But my doctor told me that low blood pressure can be a symptom of adrenal insufficiency.
