I wanted to come and say thank you for the support and kindness given to me over the last year when I came looking for information regarding my Dad.
Dad was diagnosed with Microscopic Polyangiitis just over a year ago.
He was continuously getting chest infections which I don't think the doctors really got on top of during that time.
Dad collapsed nearly 3 months ago with septic shock. He spent the last three months in hospital battling various other infections including pneumonia, CMV, C Diff. He passed away on Wednesday night.
Please don't underestimate the dangers of infection when being treated for Vasculitis. Go back to the doctor 10 times if you have to!
We have asked for donations to Vasculitis UK at Dad's funeral next week. I hope they will go some way to finding a safer cure for this awful disease.
I'll just end by listing what an amazing man my Dad was:
Bomb disposal man in the height of troubles in NI in the 70's
Magistrate - specialising in Family Court
Charity worker - visited Uganda twice a year to pay fees etc. for the 30+ children for whom he co-ordinated an education fund.
Beloved Father and Grandfather who never said no to anything we asked of him.
So very sorry for your loss. What an amazing man. May your many happy memories of him help you through in the days and years to come. God bless you all.
So sorry for your loss. Sad times but sounds like you have some wonderful and beautiful memories. My thoughts are with you and your family and thankyou for sharing your experiences. X
So sorry to hear the loss of your dad and your concern for others during your grieving. Yes vasculitis is a hidden disease and never goes away even when you think it is behaving. All the best to you and your family.
Your story brings me to tears Karen as I came so close to losing my Mum to infections during vasculitis treatment.
I am so sorry to hear you lost your Dad, my thoughts are with you at this hardest of times in anyone's life.
Your heartfelt advice about seeking early medical intervention for suspected infections is so true.
My very best wishes to you and your family.
Paul.
Dear Karen,
So sorry to hear about your Father, he sounds like an amazing man and I am sure you will have many happy memories of him that will bring you comfort.
Thank you for thinking of VUK at this sad time, I administer the research grants awarded by VUK and we make sure that the majority of the money raised for us goes into Vasculitis research.
