CSS ( EGP ) is extremely rare, thought to be around 1000 recorded cases here in the UK.
Hi Speedy,
I am a little confused, " specific autoimmune disease " isn't a diagnosis, it sounds like more of a descriptive term. As Susan has said EGPA ( Churg Strauss Syndrome ) is an auto immne disease which means the immune system attacks the body and causes inflammation.
EGPA is a variant of Vasculitis ( there are over 18 different types ), the immune system attacks the lining of the blood vessels causing inflammation. EGPA also has an allergic component which is manaifested in high eosinophils ( a type of white blood cell ). It's commonly associated with late onset asthma.
As it's rare the most important thing is to see a Consultant with good experience in treating EGPA. The mainstay of treatment is Prednisolone in combination with other immunosupressants, much depends on how severe your disease is and what organs it affects.
