Hi have you looked into ill health retirement or have you been finished because of your sickness record. I have recently gone through ill health retirement with my employer. Is this an avenue you have explored

Hi Kath

Having read your reply hope you don't mind me jumping on the bandwagon for advice :-)

Having seen my OH they suggested that I have a medical with a physician with a view to early retirement, I am meeting with my manager and head of dept next week, having been off work now for 11 months , December will be my final half pay, I noticed from the above post you have been through this? I have paid into my local govt pension scheme but realise this can be given in three teirs as to wither they think you are likely to work again fulltime in the next three years. I not only have become physically and mentally a different person with MPA +mpo I have lost a job I loved and my house will be put for sale next week as I cant pay the mortgage. Any advice about the pension process and what information will help them decide would be really helpful

many thanks Lynne

Hi it is hard isn't it I worked for dwp and had my specilaist and gps backing. The first point of call was a telephone consult with a nurse followed by ot dr then a face to face consult, with a ot dr who was employed by atos Basically you just have to explain how the ilnness affects you. Always go on the affects from the worse day. It helps if you write down all the difficulties even the smalllest thing. I also went through a PIP claim at the same time and stuff you may not even consider like how you take meds can have an effect on your claim. We had 2 tiers and I was awarded the highest one I have days when I am really dizzy think of everything and write it down. things like pain tiredness toilet issues mobility socializing sleeping.Mental health issues low mood depression ect and the prognoses of the illness With mine I am on a maintenance programme with cycotoxic meds and am still not in remission after 10 years , what are the side effects of the meds long term outlook all count. Have u spoken to the mortgage company can u go interest only for a while ? You may have the option if you get ill health to take a lump sum which may lower your annual pension but may enable you to stay in your home if you realy don't want to move. When discussing it with nthe ot advisor I found them really sympathetic look at A your job B if there are any alternatives they could offer that you could do any other work you may undertake as this is used to decide what level you will recieve Good Luck

Thanks so much Kath I will start to write down all the points you highlighted because as you know finding words in a fog of illness and medication is in it's self a nightmare. I have had a consult with OT and they have agreed I am unable to return to work through both the illness and medication and they have recommended the medical for pension to my employers. It's hard U know this will mean me being able to survive without worry which I haven't been as yet. Many thanks 🙏🏻 😊
