Vasculitis UK Patient Symposium 2015 Provisional Notice

GCA is the most common form of vasculitis. I would hope this topic can be promoted as many doctors (including consultants) are not properly informing patients of treatment options and rail-roading into temporal artery biopsies or into reducing prednisone in radical amounts, despite the dangers.
VUK are considering GCA as a topic at the patient symposium in London in April. WMTuk but VUK as a charity do not have many diagnosed with GCA as members. This is probably because there is another charity called PMR/GCA who support and are a voice for those diagnosed with GCA and have many more members than VUK.
There will be a topic for discussion at the International Vasculitis Workshop for doctors in London in April. Dr Peter Merkel from the USA will be speaking about GCA and TAK at this medical conference to around 500 doctors.
There are GCA research studies happening in the UK at the moment and if you follow this link it will give you information of the hospitals and centres involved. vasculitis.org.uk/news/giac...
There is a move to using ultra sound imaging instead of biopsy to diagnose GCA

I often wondered whether all vasculitis which occur in temporal/cranial vessels had "giant cells" which is a very specific disease..? Are there other forms of vasculitis which may not be from "Giant cells"...(?). Diseases are so complex and do not necessarily "fit into" specific classifications in my own experience. Kind Rgds,
