I am switching from prednisolone to hydrocortisone to help with tapering, I am currently on 12mg. Has anybody else tried this and how did you get on?
prednisolone to hydrocortisone : I am... - Vasculitis UK
prednisolone to hydrocortisone
I have heard of someone whose doctor had this idea (it didn't work) but I wish someone could explain to me how they think it will work. Hydrocortisone has a much shorter half life than prednisolone, yes, but its effect also lasts for a far shorter time so to achieve 24 hour relief you usually would need to take it twice a day - that's why pred is used as the corticosteroid with the most appropriate length of action.
Do tell us how you get on with it.
Hi I have addisons disease, ive been on pred long enough for docs to stop hydrocortisone which I used to take for addisons, still taking fludrocortisone .I was on 20mg hydro .
Hi i tried to come off prednisolone with the intention of taking Hydrocortisone but i was in a lot of pain so i have just stayed on 5mg of prednisolone which seems to be working for me......
I tried to come off steroids via changing to hydrocortisone but it didn't work for me. When I next try to reduce the 5mg steroid tablet I take each day I will do it by very gradually reducing the amount I take.
