I was diagnosed with HSP in 1978 and after several bouts of pneumonia my kidneys failed. I was put on dialysis in July 1980 dialysing 3 times a week then a kidney became available for me in August 1981. I have had 30 years of extremely good health, taking prednisolone and azathioprine. About two years ago I started having problems and saw a rheumatologist who thinks I have WG, very similar symptoms but better blood tests now so perhaps it was WG in the first place. My transplanted kidney is still working very well at the moment, I am just changing medication from azathioprine to mycophenolate hopefully to reduce swelling in my wrists.

A transplant may sound frightening but mine has been excellent for 33 years! Good luck.
