My partner is continuously losing weight while on hospital dialysis with good pastures. Is this normal ?
Not sure if it is normal but my husband was on haemodialysis for just over 4yrs due to WG. He continually lost weight, probably due to the restricted diet & fluid intake, although he did become painfully thin. He was lucky to have a transplant at the beginning of this year & he has regained his weight (&more). I think the dialysis does play a big part to the weight loss but it might be a good idea to have a word with the renal unit or the GP.
They keep telling him that he is having too much fluid but i write everything down so we both know hes not
I quite agree, with Susan, do speak to your renal team. When I was on dialysis my problem was weight gain; I couldn't stop eating! (Sandwiches, crisps, sausage rolls, cakes- you name it)
I would be very interested to know, what your consultant says, please will you let me, us all, know please?

Hes 6ft tall and only weighs 9st . His legs are ridiculously thin . Thankyou you both for the reply ,i will let you know what is said.
I know they concentrate on "dry weight" but that does seem a very low weight for his height. Are you remembering to add in soup, gravy, casserole sauce, custard, cream and at this time of year ice, into the fluid allowance? I used to forget about those all the time. My husbands legs were like a sparrows & he dropped 2 sizes in clothes. I understand your concerns, cause I used to make comments all the time to him about how thin he was becoming. My husband was very strict about his intake, food & fliud, but sometimes he felt unwell when he was at his "dry weight". Hopefully the renal staff will be able to provide the info you need to ease your worries., good luck.
Hi Susan, yes i do count the food fluid too. Its not easy as you know , i mean how much fluid is in 2 tablespoons of mashed potato lol . Its an awful awful disease. I hope everything is good with your husband
Hopefully he will get a transplant soon! I had one, three weeks ago, now 'they' want me to drink three litres a day; in the hot weather! Please give him my best regards; I wish you both well.

Thankyou Andrew , my partners only allowed 1 litre a day. Its a nightmare in this weather. I think it will be at least a year before he has a transplant. I hope your recovery goes well
