does anyone who has completed the medication for WG have back-ache?
Hi Mags, This is a situation I am having now although I have not finished my steriods and imuno deficiency drugs yet and I now have to go to the hospital on the 7th February for injections into my spine for pain relief. It is a common symptom of WG sufferers to have some joint and on occasions spine pain. If the pain is that serious I would makean appointment with your Rhuematologist or whoever is dealing with your WG and see what he/she suggestsope that helps.
Yours Dave Bryan
well, i sufferd badly from compression fracturs in my spine due to high dose steroids and no medication to strengthen bones,it is now sorted, but on many occasions i have had to sleep sat up in a chair or i coudnt breathe, i find also my back aches when ironing or sewing on a sewing machine,i was not offerd anything for pain relief other than paracetamol georgia
i have degenerative discs in my back and some osteoarthritis. Steroids may have caused it because I didn't have it before I was ill. I have had acupuncture and physio sessions organised by NHS. I have to wear a TENS machine to do any activities and take regular paracetamol. Was on Co- Codamol but don't want to be taking it for years due to side effects.
Since the Rituximab and higher dose of steroids have had a lot of back ache especially when standing to wash up etc, was also only able to walk short distances before suffering with back pain. Fortunately with the reduction in steroids it is starting to ease.
I have suffered with back pain since my relapse 3yrs ago, the worst time is when i try to get out of bed, i was told by my Rhumy that it was wear and tear, so i just take paracetamol in the morning and last thing at nite and in between
just try and do my best.Because iam on so many different tabs for different
things i try to take as little pain killers as needed cos of the side effects they have too. Nothing is easy when you have WG and taking tabs just causes more problems as a patient with WG for over 20yrs life has not been easy...
Thanks, everybody. It is reassuring to know other people are experiencing the same thing. My consultant-- a kidney specialist-- says it is due to ageing-- I am 77 on Tues! But I will have to do more about it ,possibly through my GP, because it is severely limiting me. Has anyone used an osteopath? I feel as though I am living on paracetomol, which cannot be good, Anyway, thanks to you all -- I do feel that the high steroid dose over 2-3years must be contributory.
I have now seen the osteopath once and do feel less stiff but the nerves in my head are jangling and the back pain is there at times. .But will see him again and hope there will be some improvement--will keep you posted.
