I had my transplant 12 years ago (touch wood) and in the last year have had 2 stress fractures , 1 on each foot. I am told its due to the steroids i have been on for 12 years. Does anyone else suffer with weak bones since their transplant ? x

My hubby Tx 13 yrs was put on calcium tablets after a bone density scan a couple of years ago showed weakening to his bones. His last bone density scan showed the tablets are helping bones better than last time. He is on cyclosporin and prendisolone.

Have you had a bone density scan? I had one 2 months after my transplant in October last year. Not seen results yet, but they did say it takes a while.

Yes i have about 2 years ago. I had my check up at the transplant clinic yesterday and they are going to order another bone scan . I have had to change my job because i was on my feet for 9 hrs a day :(

my transplant will be 10 years this May and I take Alendronic Acid once a week to help with bone density. My last bone scan was nearly two years ago and it showed some improvement over the previous one prior to starting on AA. I also am on Cyclosporin and Prednisolone.

Thats good news to know its not all down hill from now :) I didn't realise Your bone density could improve with medication, i assumed the medication would try to prevent your bones getting any worse. Thank you for your reply x
