Does anyone have experience with stopping prednisone? I am 3 years post transplant and am taking 5 mg per day. The Transplant Nephrologist says that I can just stop it. I thought that it had to be tapered, even at that low dose?
Thanks!

I’m on 5mg and have been told I need a blood test to check I’m still producing steroids naturally and if I am it can be tapered down slowly with lots of blood tests. Suddenly stopping can cause shock and serious problems (so I’ve been told)
Succes
Josette
Thank you Josette! I am still gathering information.
Goededag! I find it interesting that as your team weans you off of prednisone that they're going to replace it with cellcept. I trust the process goes well for you!
Hallo! I noticed your reply was in the Nederlandse tal; my parents and brothers immigrated from your country to the US following WWII. My husband has a transplant. He takes Envarsus (a timed released form of prograft) 5 mgs morning. Prednisone 5 mgs morning, and Myfortic (cellcept) 2 grams in the morning and evening.
It's important to add that my husband received a kidney that was an "average" match. He also agreed to accept a less-than-perfect kidney from a deceased donor with medical issues. Since my husband was 71 at the time, he's aware that his lifespan is limited. My husband is now 74 and his kidney is functioning very well and he feels great. Hence, no one is interested in changing the situation, even though prednisone was likely the major factor that made his diabetes return. Wishing you veel succes with your upcoming adjustments.
Groet, Josette
Goed zo.....heb ik ook gedaan!
