I'm writing this in the hope that it helps someone else. I had high pitched ringing tinnitus in both ears for years, was sleep deprived each morning and drank several strong cups of coffee throughou the day to stay focused at work.
It's taken a few months, but my tinnitus is much quieter now after taking the following steps:
+ Eliminated sugar from my diet (I'd been on the Keto diet for about a year before this) and took the following supplements:
Myo-Insositol powder 3g x 3 times per day
Benfotiamine powder 300mg x 2 times per day
Alpha Lipoic Acid powder 300mg x once per day
Magnesium 300mg - once each evening (around two hours before bedtime).
I invested in the Sleep Sound custom ear plugs from ACS for £84, as my neighbours are noisy at night, and this made a huge difference to the quality of my sleep.

After improving my sleep, I was then able to quit coffee and now drink either barley cup or chicory which is caffeine free. This has improved my sleep further and I'm much more focused at work, instead of being scatter brained with all the caffeine.
I can still hear ringing at a low volume when I have my ear plugs in, but the ringing is much quieter and I can fall asleep much more easily.
There is very little information about the supplements I'm taking, although there have been some studies on sleep deprivation and inositol, which has also been used for the treatment of depression, anxiety and OCD. When I found this out, I asked a friend at work who suffered from the 'checking type' of OCD if she had tried myo-inositol. She smiled and told me she had been taking myo-inositol for years and suggested I take magnesium as well to help me sleep.
I don't want to get anyones hopes up, as the steps I've taken might not work for someone else. For me, there was a link between sugar, caffeine, sleep deprivation and the loudness of tinnitis. By eliminating sugar, caffeine, taking the supplements above and improving my sleep, my tinnitus is only noticeable at night when I'm wearing ear plugs and doesn't bother me anymore.
