Hi there and hope you are all well ans looking for to the Christmas festivities.
New today on the forum and not usually something I would do , join a community as I am a private person.
But I started to have suspect tinnitus in my left ear around a month to 6 weeks ago after doing some DIY and a loud noise from the work I done made my left ear hearing muffled initially and over the past 2 weeks a ringing sound sometimes a wind sound is constantly in my left ear.
I have a GP appointment this week. But it is driving me crazy and my hearing in the left hand ear is now worse and almost tinny sound?
Googled !! and reads like tinnitus but does the above sound familiar and if so what options do I have as its wrecking my sleep and also so annoying!
Thanks for reading this and taking the time , any advice would be appreciated.

you could scroll through some posts here and see what other people have done and the replies made. Almost all of the responses show the different ways in which people have coped. You are not alone - indeed there will be several million people in this country who have tinnitus. And many, like you, find it disturbing and intrusive (to say the least).
You have a GP appointment and that’s good. However, from my years on this forum I’ve seen that many GP’s are dismissive (mine was) and some downright unhelpful. So before you see him or her, look up the pathway that GP’s are recommended to follow by NICE. Go to the website of National Institute for Clinical Excellence and put “tinnitus” into the search box at the top. If your GP isnt familiar with it (it was published at the same time that Covid hit, so many doctors would have missed it) then you can help him or her.
The next thing is to browse through the website of Tinnitus UK, the specialist charity.
Those two you can trust as honest content that isn't going to try and sell you anything.
A lot of other places out there are the domains of snake-oil salesman trying to grab your money with their miracle cures. Don't get taken in by them.
Have a good read up on those pages above and explore the exact nature of YOUR tinniuts - it's slightly different for all of us - as are the methods we deploy to live with it , cope and manage it.
Best thing here is to be posting specific questions around your own condition - that will get you good detailed answers from those of us who have had the experience and the knowledge before you and are in the best position to advise.
Don't forget give the Tinnitus UK helpline a call: 0800 018 0527 (operates pretty much biz office hours)
Check in here regulalrly and let us know what you find out. Good luck,
Thank you and really appreciate the warm welcome and advice. Bit of an unknown situation at the moment ,but open minded about it all. Just trying to manage the frustration of it currently, as well as the sudden loss of hearing. Will cope once I've got my head around it all. Thanks again and have a great Christmas.
Hi sayagain76, lots of good advice so far, can only echo most. You can get a hearing test done at boots or Specsavers free and book yourself. NHS referrals for this can (esp. in my experience) take a long time. Will at least see if you have any hearing loss.
From my experience on GP/ENT, again echos as others have said. It does appear that hearing loss, nerves and the auditory system are not well understood and this getting a answer to your questions isn't easily.
However we do work around this like we do any challenge. Just ensure the GP goes over things thoroughly.
Hi! I also contracted Pulsatile tinnitus through excessive D.I.Y.(Wood chopping). A CT Scan on my neck revealed a tortuous blood vessel that is causing the sound. Try to mask the noise, Pillow speakers help at night while during the day Shokz headphones play music from a phone. The music plays through your cheekbones so you can chat and hear easily without headphones clamped over your head. Best wishes, you will cope.
Thank you all for the kind words , advice and taking the time. GP appointment on Friday and will share next steps. Also will check the resources and links shared. Greatly appreciated. Thank you again.
