Spike in level

I have had tinnitus for as long as I can remember (I am 69) 4 weeks ago I had ear suction to remove wax, after the session my tinnitus soared to an unprecidented level so much so I have been taking sleeping tablets ever since simply to get through night . I have been told it can take weeks for it to settle back , but this doesn't seem to be happening, has any one else had this problem and what can be done?

please read the post from tobythedog about one day ago for some views.

Personally I find tinnitus is better after wax removal and I’ve seen posts in the past like yours.

One way to look at this Terence is that if your ears have been blocked by wax for a while, even if that wasn't necessarily something that you were aware of, it might take a while for your ears to get used to receiving a fuller range of sounds again.

There isn't a quick way to jump that process, only than to be confident that your senses will become less reactive to sounds if you are able to accept that things may seem as though they are noisier for a while.

Are you doing anything else to help you sleep - the guidance on our website on sleep and tinnitus is a good resource to try: tinnitus.org.uk/understandi...

We're you advised to use Olive oil drops daily before wax was removed?Like yourself I've had bilateral tinnitus many years . so I can tell it is causing you a big flair up.

You could ask your pharmacist if they have ear drops to settle inflammation in your ear.

I hope it settles down soon for you.

Hi Terence, Mine took about 6 weeks to settle, I went to my doctors and he also told my to take a hay fever spray, didn't think I had hay fever but it did help to keep tubes clear. Hope yours settles soon.

Sorry to bother you again but you say it took about six weeks, was it a gradual reduction in noise or did it suddenly start diminishing as the 6th week approached, Terry

Hi

It was gradual reduction but it's the first time this has happened having wax removed so worried if I have to have it again.

Can i ask what nasal spray you used and did you have to go to doc to be able to get it. I's been over 6 weeks now and doesn't appear to be diminishing which is scaring me , sorry to lay this on you, Terry

Sorry to hear it's not getting quiter for you it's a horrible condition. I got the spray from my doctor and I started to calm down a bit as I was getting anxious which doesn't help. I know it's hard but try not to worry and it might start to settle or get yours ears checked by your doctor to see if allergies might be also making it worse. Fingers crossed it will settle just takes time

Dear Soph, you said that yours went back to normal after a bout 6 weeks, I'm into my 7th now with no appreciable reduction, do you know of or heard of people where its has taken longer before it settled, Terry
