new pulsatile tinnitus

hello,

I have tinnitus for years and I actually cope very well. Tonight while lying in bed I can hear my heartbeat like a whooshing sound in my left ear. It’s quiet enough to be fair but starting to feel my early tinnitus days anxiety kick in.

I know there’s such thing as pulsatile tinnitus.

Has anyone ever experienced this for a short amount of time and it had gone away or am I destined for a new onset of tinnitus 😭

I’ve had bad sinus Problems and pain and itching in my left ear following a bad virus a few weeks ago so I don’t know? May this have anything to do with this.

Any advice please as pulsatile tinnitus is so new to me I may as well be back at day 1 with my tinnitus trying to habituate to that

Horrible sleeping with it. There is an ear symbol on the iPhone with natural sounds that you can use to mask it. The recent virus might have started a vestibular neuritis or migraine. Something is inflamed in the left inner ear. Best to discuss with GP. Hopefully it will resolve quickly.

thank you for the reply. Ya, please god it’s something that will resolve. I’m very lucky I can’t here it day to day, it seems to be mild but I can really hear it at night when trying to sleep. I just hope it doesn’t get louder

Hi Amyleeh. Sorry to hear of your current issue. Sounds like you had successfully habituated your T only to get this knock back. I don’t have any answers only to say your experience is almost identical to mine. Diagnosed with Meniere’s in my left ear in 1983 and had successfully coped with the associated T. Diagnosed with Glaucoma in 2022 and I think (in my case) the medication has set off my pulsatile T. It’s incredibly loud and been very difficult to ignore. It’s 24/7 and started in September. I have asked the GP for a referral to ENT and hope to get a scan. I am wondering if I have a restriction in a blood vessel which is causing the exaggerated sound being generated in my head. You may also have a minor blockage? This is a good chat room for others experiences so someone may be able to advise. Any good luck.

Hello everyone! My name is Louise and I have recently joined this Group. I had a MRI scan yesterday of my brain/head. I shall receive the results in about 4 weeks time.

Something that allows me to sleep at night is WhiteNoise on YouTube. I have it playing on my phone all night long. It's a real blessing. My T has got much worse over the last couple of years, along with several other medical conditions. I have severe pain in both knees and my left shoulder. My right knee will be replaced by a new prosthesis on July 10th, then, provided that is successful, they will do the same on my left knee three months later, and thridly, my left shoulder is agony and will be replaced three months after that. I was 80 last Monday. "Old age is not for the faint-hearted" ...... oh, so true!!!!! Keep it in the day, breathe deeply, and get on with my life. Every minute is so precious! Blessings to everyone,

Louise

hi i have/had tinnitus for years and it was the kind that you think someone is letting down a tire however about a year ago I was walking up stairs probably too fast....when I recovered I was left with pulsatile tinnitus which I still have and was told it was probably triggered by the heart episode. Its with me day and night. My hearing aid soes dull it slightly and in the evening I put an audio book on in my ear plug to wind down. Dont let this get to you...I tell myself well I can hear my heart pulsing so I am still alive...

i have had pulsatile tinnitus since 1993 when I was stabbed in the head and beaten unconscious by a patient where I worked (he had just been released form prison and was also on drugs). Sometimes it gets quite loud, usually at night when I am in bed. If I am up I do something to get quite involved with that takes a lot of attention and I can ignore it. At night I put on an 8 hour track of a forest stream or ocean surf from YouTube which drowns it out quite nicely. I've never tried any medication to control it as so far I find it an annoyance but not a major problem.
