Hi
Does anyone have any advice on aeroplanes and tinnitus please. Going to the USA soon and worried about the flight.
I went to California 2 years ago and I never had any increased problems with my tinnitus on the flights at all. My flights were varied as I flew during day to Los Angeles and through the night from San Francisco and on both flights I watched films and listened to music though not loudly. General chat with other passengers and the hostesses also helped to distract me. Bottom line is don’t worry about the flights affecting your tinnitus but wrap up as I found it cold on both flights and the blankets supplied never kept me warm throughout. Good luck!
Hi Scarlett,
I used flights for many years with no problem. Then it all changed and I suffered extreme ear pain on flights. My ENT consultant said he would have to examine me right off a flight to see what was going on with my ears, not something I could easily arrange. He recommended I try a decongestant nasal spray 1 hour before takeoff and again 1hour before landing. He added he does not condone long term use of these sprays.
I blamed a particularly bad flight for the cause of my tinnitus. I have flown since and would say it doesn't make things any worse, but I don't enjoy flying any longer.
Good luck and hope your trip goes well.
Hi Scarlett2013
Flying with tinnitus is a common concern, so we've produced an information sheet on the topic: tinnitus.org.uk/flying-and-...
I hope that reassures you and you have a lovely time!
Warmest wishes

Hi, i have flown twice since getting tinnitus and both times were completely fine, though I must admit i was very anxious on the first flight but this got less as I read my book and chatted to other passengers. I hope you have a great time away. Best wishes.
