Varicose veins & tinnitus

Hi,

This may seem a strange one. I'm due to have bad varicose veins in one leg treated. This will involve a local (not general) anesthetic, laser ablation and some foam sclerotherapy. While I appreciate there will be some degree of pain involved, I'm now worrying that this treatment could make my tinnitus worse or cause it to spike.

I've searched the web and haven't found any link but wanted to check whether anyone has come across this as an issue.

Any help/thoughts much appreciated.

your post made me think of the book by Julian Cowan Hill

“Tinnitus, From Tyrant to Friend How to Let Go of the Ringing in Your Ears” where he says

“I am constantly amazed that people accept that they can develop tinnitus, moving from relative peace and quiet one day into a state of nerves and noise the next. But to suggest that they can change back out of that state where tinnitus backs off can be regarded like heresy. You can move into red-alert with no problems. Everyone can handle that. But to suggest you can revert back into peace mode for some is unthinkable. If you don’t have tinnitus one year and then have it the next, why is it such a big deal to change again and be without it once more? You can change one way, so why is it so hard to change again? This is food for thought.”

Because I thought when I saw your post “why would going into hospital make your tinnitus worse?” You’ll be in a completely different environment concentrating on what’s going on around you (which tinnitus hates as you’ll know) and then concentrating on the pain, if any. So why might your tinnitus be worse?

On the odd couple of occasions I’ve been in hospital the T didn’t impinge at all.

Hello ARTS88 It's a valid question, Whether a procedure might cause an increase in T . I would've searched the internet too. I'm afraid I have no experience of varicose veins but wish you all the very best. Don't panic if your T does spike . It may well just be the stress of having a minor operation.

The only thing that will cause your Tinnitus to spike is your anxiety about it. You'll be fine ☺️.

I have had exactly the same procedure and it didn’t affect my reactive tinnitus at all
