Hi, I have had tinnitus all my life, from when I was a child every so often, a few times a day I would hear a loud whistle that would last about a minute.
My Father passed away 5 years ago and 6 months after I have 3 types of tinnitus, the one I had from a child as well as pulsatilla tinnitus and a constant tinnitus, both of which are constant 24 hours a day.
I have had MRI and CT scans on my head and neck, nothing was found.
I have had hearing tests which showed my hearing is fine.
I can hear my tinnitus above the radio and tv, weirdly the only time I can’t hear it is when I’m driving.
Can anyone give me tips or advise, as it’s driving me insane
Many Thanks x

hello and welcome. Pulsatile tinnitus isn’t very common (though ordinary tinnitus is!) and whilst I don’t have PT myself you’ll find information and guidance about it on the website of Tinnitus UK.
The other tip I can give (other posters might respond too) is not to believe any “cure” you see advertised. On,y trust what you can read here and on Tinnitus UK.
Just wanted to say that reading your post, the fact that you don’t hear it whilst driving is that you are probably giving all your attention to your driving and not to your tinnitus which sadly, can tend to rule our lives. Distraction is the way I cope, The fact that all your tests have proved ok is good. Have you read any books on tinnitus? Acceptance plays an important part and if you can do that and not fight it it may help you to habituate. My tinnitus started just over 3 years ago - I have musical ear syndrome. Constant repetitive undefined music 24/7. I thought I was going mad and went through so many different emotions. My audiologist tells me I must embrace it and not fight it - easier said than done !!! You are not alone in your battle. X
Thank you for your reply, distraction does help indeed, just a shame I really enjoy relaxing in silence, haha, or used to. Embrace tinnitus, wow, that’s a big ask, I feel like it’s my enemy, still, 5 years on it’s been very loyal 😩. It’s nice to know I’m not alone and I can come on here and read other stories. What is musical ear syndrome, I’m going to Google it. Best wishes to you x
Hi Jacsav. I had a terrible time with many different audiological symptoms last year including tinitus. Some tinitus can be very related to stress and your nervous system (which perhaps is partly the case for you? as you mentioned the death of your father.) I have found that working with my nervous system was very powerful and helped me overcome the worst of it...
Here are 3 people online who have helped me a lot:
I hope it helps you Jacsav. Julian Cowan Hill's story reminds me a bit of your story. He recovered from terrible tinitus and now helps others: youtube.com/watch?v=hzPvQOZ...
