Is it pulsative tinnitus?

I have been coping ok with noisy tinnitus for 4 years but for the last 5 months I have acquired a 'whu whoo' sound in my poor hearing ear when I move my head from side to side which can get worse by the evening so that it happens when I talk. It's sensitivity to loud noises causes a sort of pinging later in the day. Since seeing the local ENT department recently I was given a CT scan on my poor hearing ear and told no nasty stuff found but said I had pulsative tinnitus.I thought you need to hear a pulse for it to be called that.

Is this just another form of tinnitus?

It sounds more like Somatic Tinnitus (of which Pulsatile is one form of). Any T that is influenced by physical movement - whether by clenching teeth or articulating limbs is Somatic (of the body). You need to investigate just how you are able influence the volume and sounds by moving - then maybe, seek some physio - from someone who has worked with T before and knows what they're doing!

Thank you. I will look into it now I have a fix on what it could be. The symptoms are so different to the hissing T I already have have that I found it hard to believe it was T and not something else.

I have pulsatile tinnitus in addition to the hissy whiny tinnitus and it tends to come and go. I have had MRIs and a CT scan at different times and nothing terrible has been found. Mine is in time with my heart beat and sometimes varies according to what I'm doing - for example if it's noticeable already and I lie down on that side it gets worse - and at other times seems to just be there and nothing I do affects it. You might explore the parameters of yours, but if you have a scan and it's not too bothersome try to learn its quirks and learn to live with it.

Without knowing your age or other health issues, it might be an idea to get a heart check in the form of ECG. There is a suspected link with arrhythmias and hearing loss/ tinnitus. Like everything more research needs to be done. I experienced sudden onset tinnitus/ hypercussis a year prior to the discovery I had atrial fibrillation. Once treated for the afib my symptoms improved. Could be coincidence but thought I’d share my experience :-)
