Hi all, 15+ years sufferer and worse since December 22. Both ears screaming day in day out it really gets me down but I try carry on as much as but avoid loud noises as T reacts more. Toothache few days now, unbearable so given in and made a dentist appointment for tomorrow. Looking for tips I guess on how to deal as my anxiety is high and I fear the drill as its loud. Any tips gratefully appreciated. Thanks all.

Hi Yam42 Wear ear protection - muffs and / or plugs. I wear muffs. If you protect your ears it will take the fear out of it. It worked for me anyway.

I have earplugs but seems to trap the noise in more if you know what i mean. If I put fingers in my ears it blocks it a bit more. Wonder if they'll let me do that

I know Yam .. but you must protect your ears. Fingers won't do. Wear your plugs or buy some muffs from a hardware shop. It's not worth taking any risks if you're already suffering with loud T. Sorry to be bossy 🙂

as doglover says - and tell the dentist so that the practitioner knows.

Hi Yam42...I know this fear...and the uncomfortableness of trapping the T in...but plugs surely won't hurt and might protect the external ear...maybe try some CBT techniques and definitely tell the dentist...maybe they can alter their drill technique to make it less noisy and vibrating.

Hello

Ask the dentist to drill in intervals having gaps in between, that’s if he drills as he may extract the tooth….

Also by pressing the tragus firmly over the ear canal with your fingers is an excellent way to plug your ears as I was told by my audiologist that it reduces sound instantly by 30 decibels…. I must say I have used this method for sirens etc passing in the street….

I hope this helps

Good luck x

Yes I find if I do this with my fingers it blocks sounds more as doesn't vibrate in my head as much, thanks

Ono. That's bad luck. Waiting ramps up the anxiety. I'm due to have two fillings end of November. It's going to be a long month .. All the best today.

Thanks, no drilling but couldn't find the cause so I'm left with little tips and pain still. Hope yours goes well for you.

Thanks Yam. I'm sorry about yours. Teeth can be very tricky.

when anxiety levels are very high it is possible to have sedation . You won’t know anything about it. I had sedation when a dentist had to take deep roots out.

Good luck

Sedation requires that someone else attend and drive.
