Tinnitus now loud bangs

Hi, I was diagnosed with tinnitus around 4 years ago. A very loud hissing. I have hearing aids which has made a difference. Now I can hear my own breathing and heartbeat amplified inside my head . I know there is a name for this. I am currently waiting for ent been waiting for a year and a half. I have learnt to live with this but now something new has joined the party. I hear loud bangs as I am trying to sleep. Kind of accepted that but last night I heard a horrid high pitched few notes like a computer noise. It sounded loud and like it was in the room I realised I have also heard it once before but put it to the back of my mind. Nothing in the room and I know its not real. I am now not looking forward to going to bed. Can anyone tell me if this is part of this condition. I am now thinking all sorts.

The loud bangs might be something like Exploding Head Syndrome - webmd.com/sleep-disorders/e... - which can affect a percentage of people with tinnitus as they drop off to sleep.

When you mention computer noise, do you mean that there's a sound like an older dial-up internet connection or is it something different?

Yes it's like that but 4 notes. Very loud like it's in the room. Yes I think you are right about exploding head syndrome. Sometimes it sounds like a loud bark in my ear as I am drifting off. It's this new noise that has me worrying hoping it's tinnitus related and not something else.

Hey, I've had T for a few years now and I sometimes hear imaginary loud noises on falling asleep. Sometimes like a thunderclap, a door slamming or even someone shouting in my ear. I freaked out to begin with but having done some research realise it must be Exploding Head Syndrome. I just don't freak out about it now! I hope that reassures you a bit. Best wishes.

Thank you , yes it does I was starting to put off going to bed worrying about my mental health. I have anxiety issues so this had put me through the roof. Hearing this has really helped, if you know what something is it is half the battle.

I also get a loud buzz when falling asleep or waking up like an electric shock. Occasionally with a flash of light and arm jolts. Been freaking me out. Actually feel bit better now reading this as think it sounds like exploding head syndrome xx

It sounds bad , but it's reassuring to hear other people have the same experience and an answer for it. Really glad I found the site. Xx

Hi, it sounds as though you have pulsetile tinnitus linked to your pulse rate. I have this and it is worse at night when in bed because there are no distractions from tv or radio. I sometimes get a strange sound when starting to 'drop off'.I put the bedroom tv on youtube and listen to white noise (on timer) until I drop off.

Thank you, I think you are right it has just changed from hissing to waking up with the pulsing I also get very anxiouse as had a few dizzy episodes. I had they think labyrinth a few months ago and now am in terror of it happening again. So sometimes I don't know if my anxiety is doing it or my ears. Can be an ongoing battle every day. I also have been diagnosed with trigemenal nuralgia . Wish I could make the anxiety dissappear and be a stronger person.

I agree with Pat. I get them very occasionally, had them for years.. As Pat says its when you are trying to get off to sleep . Its a very quick bang/zap in the middle of your head. I don't worry about them now. Although they are very annoying. Just try to relax, maybe listen to the radio and they will go away.
