Inflammatory Pain and T

I have had T for over two years now following an attack of vertigo with varying diagnoses of labyrinthitis, bppv or vestibular neuritis, none of which have ever been confirmed.. and after all this time I feel stuck with no sign of reaching habituation.. I had months of complaining of a dullness in my left ear, and eventually swabs were taken from affected ear and nostril which confirmed I had streptococcus aureus .. treated with antibiotics.. since then my GP has said she can see “bubbling” in my left ear which could be Eustachian Tube disfunction, but only treatment is nasal spray.. My query is I suffer a lot from what feels like inflammatory pain in my head on the left hand side near to my ear as well as the noise from the T.. British Tinnitus Association said to go back to my GP as pain shouldn’t be associated with T... what are other’s experience, is T stand alone bothersome noise or is associated pain always a factor?

Hello - 2 1/2 years ago I suffered a bout of Labyrinthitis which involved extreme dizziness, nausea and what I thought was a blocked right ear turned out I had lost most of the hearing in that ear. It was when the pandemic was bad so initially just spoke with doctors. I didn’t have any pain as such. I was put on very high dose steroids in the hope I would regain my hearing which I never did. After a few days my tinnitus started. My main tinnitus noise is repetitive undefined music 24/7 which is known as musical ear syndrome, along with noises like morse code and cicadas. I paid to see an ENT consultant as waiting times were horrendous thankfully an MRI showed nothing untoward.

Has your GP referred you at all and have you had a hearing test anywhere? I have never experienced pain and if it were me I would be asking to see a specialist and for an MRI scan . The fact that she can see bubbling in your ear shows that something is going on. I hope you feel better soon x

thank you for taking the time to respond. I have paid privately to see ENT consultant had an MRI via NHS as T was only in one ear primarily checking for acoustic neuroma but all clear.. had hearing tests and slight loss of hearing but nothing unusual for my age.. I can’t help feeling something has been missed because of the unexplained pain

Hi - that’s good that you have undergone various elimination tests but you know your body better than anyone else. It will be interesting to see if anyone else responds saying they have pain but for me, I would keep on at my G P to go back to a specialist. Please post how you get on. x

PS: Definitely no pain with Acoustic Neuroma as my niece has one but she does suffer quite bad tinnitus.

I know everyone’s experience of T is different but I just feel so many things do not correlate and need to pursue things further. Thank you again

Hi! It’s interesting that I ‘ve just received treatment for streptococcus aureus. Can it be a link between this infection and T?

My T began in exactly the same way as yours.

I don’ T think that there is pain involved in T, although at the moment my T has become louder as my pain in the back has increased. Who knows?

Hi that is very interesting.. I can’t help feeling there is definitely a connection as the streptococcus was found in my left nostril and left ear and it’s my left ear that is a problem.. I do suffer pain on the left side too.. thank you for taking the time to respond.. best wishes

Hi mine is painful, not severe enough to take a painkiller so far but I don't want to live with this much more. Not sure if it's pressure causing pain I have weird pressure in my head and around ears and pain. Strange feelings

It's was caused by very sudden loud noise 5 weeks ago I do have ringing ears aswell

I feel my ears literally vibrating sometimes after noise exposure and the ringing gets louder
