New to tinnitus : Hi ..Daz here...very new to... - Tinnitus UK
New to tinnitus
Hiya Daz, there are some great resources, tips and tricks on the Tinnitus UK page. Here is a link from them regarding sleep - tinnitus.org.uk/understandi...
Hi, there is a ton of infirmation and help on the TinnitusUK. It may also be useful for you to join one of Tinnitus UKs online support groups which are held a few times a month. Empathy and tips from other people with tinnitus can be very useful in knowing how to live with your tinnitus.Bothersome tinnitus is usually percieved louder at night and generally because there is less sound around for you to focus on. If the evening/night becomes too much then one technique people use is to play low level sound to help defocus. This can be colour noise (white/pink etc..) or even just some music or background noise.
Welcome to the group. Ask as much as you can as there is a lot of experience and positivity on here from people who have worked through their tinnitus.
Many people on here recommend the sleep headband . Amazon do some . Saw a ENT consultant recently . He also said they were helpful . Also CBT therapy can help .As Darren6 said sound therapy on YouTube can help distract at night . Check out Ben Thomson tinnitus therapies . There’s lots of sound and colour versions for 10 hours . Just make sure the sound is slightly lower than your T .
I've only had it a few months, I'm very laid back..and try to accept its something I've got to live with...from reading posts on here...I'm guessing I've got it to a mild/moderate level...but my sister who has menieers disease...said to me wait...while it sounds like a washing machine....so it may slowly chip away at my mental health....appreciate the advice given especially the sleep band...Will make a gp appointment to have it on record ...especially if I have to have sick days from work...although the distraction of work...does help
Good luck- it takes a bit of getting used to but you can function. As youll see no miracle cures but things that can help…
another beautiful way to partially mask the T sound is walking in the countryside - concentrating on birdsong, rustling trees, even rain.
We all now know that being in nature is good for the body, mind and spirit - and it’s bad for tinnitus. By which I mean, the little imp that is tinnitus sitting on your shoulders and giggling at your discomfort, he hates you being happy outdoors.
If your sleep is disturbed, walking is another way to get tired so that you sleep better.
I know you say you’re busy with work, but you need to prioritise your health.
Hi Daz,
Welcome to the group. My 1 bit of advice, that I found out when 1st diagnosed last year, is don’t search the internet for cures. Lots of snake oil salespeople about. As others have said, Tinnitus UK is a great source of information.
hi there. first off if you’re getting 6-7 hours sleep that’s excellent. The key for me to coping is keeping busy and distraction. Try and get plenty of exercise and socialise as much as possible. In my early days I went the other way and isolated myself which made the situation worse. I use a sleep headband and listen to podcasts to try and sleep. Unfortunately if I get 3 hours that’s good for me.
All the best going forward.
Update...first gp appointment this morning...the private audiologist I saw march..said the camera had shown evidence of perforated eardrum...doctor couldn't it see this morning ...took on board my tinnitus...and referred me to e.n.t....if not received an appointment in 6 to 8 weeks...call surgery to give em a nudge
