I’ve had tinnitus for 3 years now (covid infection caused it)

ENT wasn’t helpful as ears and hearing test are good for age.. and don’t want to see me again

Anybody know best next steps? I’ve been wondering about nerve damage being the cause 🤷‍♀️ want to see the gp with an idea of what needs doing next if anything.

many doctors aren’t keen to deal with T as they know there isn’t a cure. You can look at the website of NICE( National Institute for Clinical Evidence) and put “tinnitus” into their search box to see what pathways docs could follow.

Be aware that any cures you see advertised are simply ways to get your money.

Finding out what the cause was does not necessarily help. It’s happened. You’ve got tinnitus. It might go away. It might not. The trick is to find a way that you can habituate to it - lots of things on the Tinnitus UK website.

Habituation is light a switch too. It’s on n off all the time. My long covid means when my fatigue is bad so my T is too. I’m trying to get fitter but even a simple walk triggers the T

I will definitely look into NICE as ENT treated me appallingly, their first words to me after my hearing check and looking in my ears was “you sure you have tinnitus?” Also been told I’m not a candidate for hearing aids. 🤷‍♀️ I just don’t know what to believe as they couldn’t get rid of me quick enough.

Just feeling really fed up of everything and needed to vent.

Thank you for suggestions xx

Hi Molly. I'm sorry you have T on top of Long C (I read your profile). Even it is nerve damage there's nothing anyone can do. It's best to put your efforts into living with T rather than solving it. If it resolves on its own no problem; if it doesn't you have all the tools to deal with it. Those skills are transferable too. You might like to read Living Tinnitus & Hyperacusis by Dr Baguley. It's a very good book - written with real compassion. It's like a hug on paper 🙂

hi there. I recommend a video on YouTube that really helped me. The channel is vic veer- ENT surgeon. It’s called how I cured my tinnitus. There’s loads of good information and tips and strategies you’ll hopefully find useful. All the best.
