I know. It's not easy. If you decide to try it .. keep an open mind. Don't get your hopes up too high. What works for some people doesn't work for others. All the best.

Hello Kelly. I tried acupuncture, which was amazingly relaxing but did not affect my T at all. I also tried craniosacral therapy, physiotherapy, assorted neck exercises, change of diet, vitamin/mineral supplements.....

....as you can probably gather, when T first struck me (after some overly-vigorous osteopathy) I was desperately seeking a cure for several months and did everything I could think of to find one. Some of the therapies were expensive.

One thing I recently discovered quite by chance that seems to reduce (but not stop) my T is to keep my ears and my neck constantly warm. I wear an "indoor" hat (a chemo hat) and a silk scarf around my neck. A neurophysiologist that I was seeing for something else told me that nerves, unlike strained muscles, like to be kept warm. Heat is not a fix for T though, so please don't get hopes up! It just seems to help reduce mine a little.

Bear in mind that my T (L sided, loud, rumbling/low pitch, HGV engine-noise-like, sometimes with a high-pitched screech in the background) began as the result of unwise traction/manipulation to my neck most likely traumatizing the spinal accessory nerve and assorted nerve bundles around the C1/C2 and occipital area. This may be very different to your experience. T is a personal thing. An ENT specialist hypothesized years ago that my T could be somatosensory, i.e. neck nerves generating "noise" along my auditory nerve.

Bottom line? With T, where the cause is unknown/guesswork, trying to find a cure can be both expensive and unrealistic. I think the best we can hope for is to keep the noise level as low as possible through acceptance, habituation, relaxation, meditation and sharing issues, hints and tips on Healthunlocked.

So, in my opinion it might be worth going for complementary therapy from an induced relaxation perspective, but a CD/audio on guided meditation might be just as effective, cheaper and there whenever you need it.

Whatever you opt for, I hope you find a little relief soon.

thank you . I know from the original time I got it( 20 years ago ) from barotrauma. I tried . every vitamin , sound therapy. Any reference to anything that might help . It was time that helped ,actually about 5-6 years. Last 14-15 years have been blissfully quiet ( it was still there if I listened hard for it ). Thats why I'm so depressed . I've already been through this hell once. Very worried that this is different and permanent as atorvastatin says its irreversible

Hi Kelly

I have been having acupuncture over a period of 8 sessions and can say it has really helped me. I have two tinnitus noises and it has reduced my loud noise and made it more bearable.

My lovely acupuncturist said he has treated many patients and it works for some and not others.

So my advice would be give it a try.

Good luck.

Thank you Riverdale2021. So glad it helped you . I will definately give it a go now . if it could just reduce the pitch of my high hiss , it would be worth every penny .

I haven't tried it. Perhaps I should. Very, very, different I know, but years ago i had some joint pain. My GP had just undergone training in acupuncture and had some time to spare that day. She asked if I would like to try it. I was super sceptical, but nothing to lose, so I did. I sat there for about 15 minutes with the needles in. I left the surgery still sceptical, and with the same (persistent but not severe) pain. 20 minutes later I was standing in the queue at the Post Office and the pain vanished - permanently. Take it for what it is worth .

Hi Kelly, I've had high frequency sounds in my head since a very loud noise got me in 1995. Like others on the forum I've tried all sorts of "cures" but to no avail. Had several sessions of acupuncture in year2000 and as others have said it helped generally to relax (with seven needles attached to a stimulator device). In each session these were removed after about 20 minutes and then a much larger needle was inserted into the cavity behind the ear (if you put your finger behind the ear and then open your mouth you'll feel the jawbone move and a large space is created) the needle was then moved about for about 5 minutes. This is not very pleasurable and for me after 5 sessions I could stand it no longer.

Don't let me put you off though, the acupuncturist assured me it does work for some people.

Good luck, I hope you find a solution soon....I'm still trying.

thank you Spud. maybe I'll just ask for the normal needles . That large one doesn't sound very good all all . I've never heard of that before.

Hi Kelly, I did try acupuncture when I first had T, it didn't work for me and I remember it was sometimes quite painful, especially one needle in my big toe when I nearly hit the roof! I don't think there is any harm trying different things, you never know, it might work for you. I am about to try notch therapy, it's cheap to do and I know some people have said it helped them. I would also like to try hypnotherapy. Good luck, you will find a way that works for you😀

Hi Kelly. i had several sessions, unfortunately didn't do anything for me, that's not to say it wouldn't work for you, anything is worth a try, if only there was something that would help us all, good luck.

I haven't read the article Was there a link to it please?

I have had 2 sessions so far but haven't seen any difference.

I was supposed to compliment the treatment by taking some mixture of Chinese herbs which didn't initially do as I was concerned it might aggravate the T

Anyhow I have started taking it noise or no noise
