Hi Natalie
This search may have some results which give you lived perspective on the product - healthunlocked.com/search/p...
Community member Ade-the-Pade did a very helpful diary of his time with the device.
it won’t let me click into any of the threads saying their unavailable
I'm wondering if Ade has left Health Unlocked and his posts have been deleted...
gosh I hope it was because he cured! Doesn’t seem to many positive threads on here, I wonder why people don’t share more. There must be success stories for tools, Doctors people have worked with and used.
Is the case that people no longer feel the need to use a tinnitus forum for self-help when they have habituated to the condition - that a resource like this relates to a part of their life which is no longer as problematic to them?
yes I suspect so, if you are feeling better than not reading about tinnitus anymore would be such a joy and a relief
Hi Nathalie
As Pat rightly suggests, many people come here for comfort in their time of need. I had a big flare up end of last year and was losing the plot. I was frantically researching any and everything that might “cure” my awful loud tinnitus. Habituation is the goal, and for the vast majority it will come. I’m roughly there now I think and I can’t even explain the difference. It’s gone from hearing T for nearly every minute of the day to sometimes I almost don’t hear it at night. The volume or pitch hasn’t changed at all, but how much my brain focuses on it has drastically changed. That’s not to say this device couldn’t help you or others, but for several thousand pounds it’s a big price to pay to try. Habituation is relatively free!
nathalie, lots of people have shared on this site what works for them.
However the site isn’t searchable in that way, as far as I can see.
Personally, I didn’t do anything in particular: I just habituated just as everyone habituates to most things. As an example, when I lived in a flat on a main road I couldn’t sleep because of the noise, Within a few weeks I’d got used to it.
As another example, when the weather suddenly changes and you put on a winter coat for the first time, you are uncomfortable, the coat is heavy, you’re cold - but within a few minutes you’ve forgotten it.
Hello Nathalie_007 I'm not in favour of these devices for several reasons. T is unpredictable; treatment is experimental; habituation is free. Please be careful. There are some unscrupulous people out there.
This is what Tinnitus UK says about Lenire: tinnitus.org.uk/tinnitus-tr...
The trials on Lenire were tightly controlled. You had to be under 30 and have had tinnitus for no more than 5 years. There have been no independent reviews. Looking at its success rates CBT and masking hearing aids have a better success rate. By itself Lenire is not really the answer. Let’s be honest, if it really worked we would all be using it. The Tinnitus Clinic has offered a similar device, although more expensive, for years. If the companies were confident their product worked they would offer a money back guarantee. They don’t.
thank you and agreed with all your points, it feels private is the only way as the NHS is too slow for someone suffering. I am
Now looking at Hashir Aazh bit treatment with hi again is really expensive (as they all are!) Lawrence Mckenna’s name has also come up several times but I’ve read some mixed reviews. If any of you have an CBT dialogue or course you could recommend I would be very grateful
Hi Nathalie
I have come to the conclusion that T is incurable at this time. However, there are treatments available that might help us on the road to habituation. I have undergone Tinnitus Retraining Therapy as well as Lenire. Both treatments were not cheap, however I do not regret having made the investment. Both have their merits, but nothing is perfect. I used them as part of my strategy to cope with the condition and I have to say that I am in a much better place than I was when I started on this journey.
can I ask who you did your tinnitus retraining therapy with? Was it an online course or with a consultant? Thank you
Hi Nathalie
In Canada, many audiology clinics offer this service. I would assume the same for the UK. There is lots of information available on the internet. You can find out more about the therapy at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinni...
In the UK audiology departments offer what can be loosely described as TRT - sound therapy and counselling - but not all hospitals offer everything. I got my HAs from audiology locally but a phone call from a tinnitus clinic at a hospital 25 miles away. The call just covered basic coping strategies. There was no CBT on offer so I paid for it privately.
yes it’s unfortunate but it feels private is the only option, the hospitals do not offer a sufficient service as far a I’m concerned
hi dl - are yr hearing aids making a difference to every day life . Is the T louder when u take them out?
thnx Suz
Hi Suz_2 I wore them for six weeks last summer .They really took my mind off T while I was wearing them and didn't change my T very much when I wasn't.. The problem is they made my ears sore so I'm a little bit reluctant to try again. ENT have said it's not essential as I can hear well enough in one ear without them.
that was the same as my partner with the hearing aids he felt they made his ears sore so was focussing on the ears all the same, we’re going to try Lawrence McKenna I will keep people posted with my partners progress and I really hope it will be positive.
Please do. All the best. I hope CBT works well for your partner. I think it's lovely you're so supportive 🙂
Not great helped a little at the time but nothing drastically, my partner is still massively struggling
