NHS advice has long been to see the person in front of them (or lately on the phone with them) as a human being, and not a collection of symptoms. I would have to guess that they're trying to get a picture of your lifestyle and how it might affect your health.

I have the same questions asked to me - it's nothing personal. I've never smoked, as I'm asthmatic, and I'm tee-total. It's a bit annoying having to repeat yourself, but GPs and Nurse Practitioners have limited time to see us, have to use that time wisely and are increasingly guided to try and involve us in our healthcare, hence the lifestyle questions.

Smoking is known to damage the ear, and if we've ever smoked, there's a chance that the ear could be affected, with a knock-on effect for our hearing and for issues like tinnitus to develop. I don't think that the reason for the question about smoking is for anything more than to help with diagnosis and decision-making.

You have the right to that opinion, Deltec - but remember that doctors are human beings. Perhaps a bit more trained than we are and expert in certain areas, but they're fallible and sometimes mistaken, just as we are.

They want to help and to provide care - some conditions are just more difficult to do that for, which I know is frustrating.

Hi sorry you feel let down by GPs but I look at it this way there are approx 55 million people living in England and our wonderful ever stretched NHS see All even those who do not pay into the system. It's no wonder we at times feel let down as they have limited time with us. Wish you well for the future🤞
