SILENT DISEASE : I can’t ride car, bus or train... - Tinnitus UK
SILENT DISEASE
Hello Sun
Doctors will tell you that there is no cure for tinnitus not to frighten you, but because it is the truth - it isn't an illness or a disease. It's perhaps a symptom, which can affect people who have a number of different health issues.
As a lot of the the community here have advised you, trying to be less anxious about your tinnitus will help you to get control back over it, so that it won't cause you as much distress as it seems to be doing at the moment.
The conditions which may be causing your tinnitus have cures or treatments, even if tinnitus itself doesn't seem to have an obvious one.
You've mentioned anxiety and irritation in your post - that's normal and it does improve. Getting some help with controlling your anxiety would be a good place to start to make your tinnitus less threatening.
Hi again sun_1234 I felt anxious in noisy situations for quite a while so I invested in earplugs and earmuffs. This helps you to go out again without the worry and when you start to feel better you can use them less & less. Have a look in the BTA shop.
Thank you Doglover . where is BTA shop? how can buy them?
Hi sun_1234
I feel for you, I really do...but I think you probably need to just calm your body down a bit. I find the more anxious, irritated worried and stressed I become, the louder my T becomes. It thrives on all of these feelings and you're just feeding it what it wants. I find simple breathing exercises works for me. It just calms me down and in turn my T calms down.
I know it's a difficult time for you and we have all been there, but it does get better.
All the best
Thank you MOLKO.
my T is aggraved by car travel - and i have avoided the train and bus since my T started - do u wear ear plugs or other ear protection?
Liam Stops Tinnitus approach is predicated on managing the central nervous system's fight or flight response to tinnitus, so there's nothing particularly new in it. You might say that contacting a psychologist or counsellor would have more of a long term positive effect for people in the throes of a panic response to tinnitus than dry fasting or cold showers are likely to. Just my opinion, rather than that of the BTA I hasten to add.
Hi sun 1234. I think you need to talk to people like yourself. Either a zoom online group, so you can talk together, this is called cognitive behavioural therapy. also a group locally for tinnitus sufferers. You can talk to someone direct quicker than on here, and get your confidence back. Both groups could be found with your doctors help
I'm so sorry! Perhaps these things might help you. 1. You must keep your blood pressure low as you can and is important to control whether you snores. 2. Take Magnesium L. Threonate (Only this Magnesium!!!) 3 hours before bed. 3. Try taking Idebenone for your brains and Gingko Biloba. 4. Try with Mimicking fasting diet of Walter Longo, here there aren't doctors to guide us with this diet. I hope you can find one. I wish you much luck!!
I've had T for nearly two years now. It really does get easier and this forum is fantastic. It's helped me immensely.
Early in I was very wary of doing things I normally do. For me examples were cycling, going to watch football train and car travel and I really like pubs.
I'm now back doing all those things, some present some challenges but I've found ways to deal with those and feel much better for it.
I think I sort of panicked when I first got T. I have ups and downs with it but that feeling of panic has pretty much subsided completely.
All the best
