Herbs and Supplements

Hi everyone has anyone tested any herbs or supplements that have helped lessen your tinnitus? I have read today that Black cohosh root or Blue Vervain can help !!

I know there is no solid cure as I do have custom hearing aids that help me a lot but when I take them out at night my tinnitus likes to wake me up at 5 or 6 am every morning.

Thanks for reading this post.

Hi Frankie. I've tried magnesium, gingko biloba & VitB12 . None of them made a difference . I take 5-HTP at night and I think it's helped me sleep a little better. I used to wake up regularly at 5am but I often go back for a hour or so now. I might give black cohosh & blue vervain a try!

Ask your doc if its ok to take them first.

The website of British tinnitus Association gives a lot of information on different supplements. As long as you’re aware there’s no supplement you can take which will definitely help, it might be worth experimenting with supplements - making sure you buy from a trusted source. Don’t believe advertisements from snake oil salesmen giving you the definitive cure! Some six months ago a poster here said that he’s tried vitamin D with good effect. I was willing to waste £15 but it did nothing for me.

True and the bad thing about supplements are that a lot of them do not even have the correct amount inside the tablet and anyone can produce them. Amazon is littered with fake reviews so the safest way to take them I think is to do a lot of research to find reliable companies.

I get all my supplements from a company that existed at least twenty years ago, so I’m fairly sure of their reputation.

As someone who has had unbearable volumes of Tinnitus since February this year and understands the hope that one day i will conquer it. I have decide to ignore the massive amount of cures on the internet, I will only try medication that is recommended by The British Tinnitus Association or my Audiologist. I realise that hope for a cure or respite is the most important thing, yesterday the T sound was still there but the feeling of pressure in my ears had gone. today it is back to normal.

Hello purenostalgia your are on the right road with this as it would be a miracle cure if a herb would work. I was just curious..I have had chronic tinnitus for over 20 years and only got slight relief this year after getting custom hearing aids from the NHS. My routine now also has changed as it affects my sleep because I have to take my hearing aids out at night. so therefore no eating after 7 pm never drink caffeine or alcohol, find your trigger foods that set of the tinnitus like crisp as they are too salty. I have to make sure I exercise like a 2 miles walk per day this helps me sleep and if my sleep pattern is disrupted with tinnitus use valerian root extract to get me to sleep. Then if I wake up with mind-blowing tinnitus I put my earphones on and listen to a special audio recording off Youtube that helps cancel out the T until I'm ready to get out of bed and put my hearing aids on.

It sounds a lot but this so far is the only routine that helps me.

Hi frankie

Sorry to hear you’re going through a rough patch.

I ‘had T’ for many years, had to take benzos to sleep.

Then, 5 years ago, I finally realised that if you concentrate entirely on yourself, on your T for example, for sure it’ll seem like the end of the world. And, the 10 sq m you live in is all T and nothing else.

So, I started thinking about others and the far worse problems they have to face.

And, slowly, the rating I formerly gave my T fell from 50 to Zero and No benzos now for many years.

Please see my own T post for the detail.

All the best!
