I have had T in both ears for over 30 years. Recently I have experienced a big increase in volume of T in the left ear also my ear is painful inside (worse upon wakening) gp has said there is nothing wrong with my ear. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on?

Pain is your body’s way of telling you that it things something is amiss. See a different doc?

Or ask for a referral. If your ear hurts there's something wrong. Whether your GP can see it or not.

It could be ETD, which can cause an increase in loudness persepction and ear pain, especially as your head has been at a lower level all night. Maybe try sleeping with your head higher, just a thought.

Hope it squares itself away soon.

👍

Thank you for that. What is ETD?

Thank you very much for that. Very informative article that seems to give a probable explanation for the issues I have at the moment.

Hi Parrcj. There are some situations in which tinnitus is part of an overall emergency referral criteria - alone it would not be, unless the person experiencing it was deemed to be at risk from emotional distress or mental health difficulties prompted by T.

The 2020 NICE tinnitus referral guidelines discuss this - nice.org.uk/guidance/ng155/...

I've been waiting a good six months too. My GP didn't put urgent on my referral even though I have unilateral hearing loss - and I was very distressed in the early stages. (The BTA helpline saved me). I've been told I may not see anyone this year. I hope you get help very soon. I think it may depend where you live. The services here are not very good at the best of times . Let alone during a pandemic.
