Antibiotics safer for tinnitus

Hi all, I have tinnitus as a result of taking Naproxen three years ago, antibiotics (Metronidazole) have made the condition noticeably\considerably worst just after only 8 tablets of a course of 21, I stopped taking them immediately at that point but the damage was done. I am sure in my life I will need to take antibiotics again, is there any consensus on which may be considered safer for tinnitus? Are there any tinnitus "friendly" antibiotics?

Often there isn’t a “cause” for tinnitus, so I’d be surprised if anyone on this forum has experienced your exact issues. But you’ve clearly got some reason to be so specific about the cause. Is this on the info given with the medication?

What about a chat with your pharmacist?

I have had similar issues with antibiotics , I have found a book Ototoxic drugs by Neil G Bauman , this lists drugs including antibiotics and their potential impact upon hearing / tinnitus .

Frankly it does seem that large number of drugs can "cause" tinnitus and I can certainly back this up with my own experience

Yes, I took Otomize ear drops which are ototoxic, and got tinnitus in that ear.

I had a similar experience with Otomize ear drops - my tinnitus became 'louder' - and it became noticeable again having habituated. Thankfully my tinnitus either calmed down or I habituated again after about six months of renewed discomfort.

I had no problem with tinnitus prior. Had earache on and off for ages and was given oral antibiotics then the drops. I still have ear ache and waiting for ENT appointment. Wish I hadn't bothered with the doctor.
