Worsened Tinnitus after syringing

Hi there - has anyone had their tinnitus worsen after syringing. I had mine done Wednesday and the tinnitus has got a lot worse. Went because I had some pain and the nurse said the wax had to be cleared so they could see the ear drum. Went back to doctors today as pain worse and have been told I have Eustachian tube disfunction and been given antibiotics. Now the tinnitus is sky high and I am not sure if it’s the syringing or the tube making it worse. Hoping it will start to settle once the antibiotics kick in but worried it won’t if due to the syringing. Has anyone else found it made the tinnitus worse and did it settle down again. Yours hopefully Jane

There have been a few posts about syringing and micro suctioning over the last year or two so if you put these terms (one at a time) into the search box top right you’ll see what people have said. A lot of disagreement within the forum as far as I remember.Whatever has been causing your tinnitus, though, quite likely to calm down as you say when the medication kicks in, and you’ll find guidance about this on the British Tinnitus Association website.

Hi Jane, yes, tinnitus was much worse after syringing but it did settle back down around a week or so later...be encouraged!

Thank you Sylviane77 - I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I did have them syringed about 5 years ago with no problem so thought it would be the same this time! Trying hard to distract myself and not keep focusing on it but last night was terrible and did not sleep much despite putting on my sound machine.

iv had my ears shringed lots of times over the years and have had no problems but when i got head injury tinnitus last year i had to have my ears shringed which is the first thing a doctor will have you do my wax was very hard and required lots of attempts to get the wax out even though i had been putting lots of oil in to soften the wax when i had my right ear shringed it was horrible every thing sounded horrible cutlery sounded horrible and went through me like scraping a blackboard with your nails running water sounded horrible but after about a week it settled down and eventually went back to normal i had my left one done a few weeks later again it took a lot of times to get the wax out and on the last time i heard in my ear what sounded like a shot gun going off twice which shook me on walking out of the doctors i realises i could not here very well in that ear and again things sounded funny and since then i have been partly deaf in that ear every thing sounds ok now but i have lost about a third of my hearing nobody has any answers to what happened iv come to terms with it now but i will think twice before i have it done again i was just unlucky i think its because my tinnitus was so loud it interacted with the noise of the shringing and caused the effects i went through

Hello 777john - good to hear the tinnitus settled but sorry to hear of your deafness-I certainly won’t be having it done again. Having had it done before I thought it would be safe!! Unfortunately I am feeling rather anxious about it now which I know only makes it worse!!

dont worry the tinnitus will calm down it always does its just that when it is loud time slows down and you just feel it never will but it will tinnitus is horrible we all go through ups and downs but the longer we have it the ups are longer and WE DO get our lifes back you are not alone we are all with you 👍

Thank you for your positivity - I certainly need that right now. When it’s bad you never think it will get better or improve again. Best wishes to you
