One of my family members suffers really badly with Tinnitus and we are desperate to find some answers. I am looking to see if anyone could share with me their experience of any private healthcare professionals who they have found really useful? ideally london based but happy to travel too. Thank you so much. Also, has anyone been to the Tinnitus clinic at Harley Street?

All on here will have huge sympathy. Help can be found. I was diagnosed in February this year it was a total shock one day to de drowning in noise. After waiting for a referral to ENT locally ( I still have not yet seen a specialist on NHS still waiting) I became so desperate, I was forever taking painkillers and sleeping tablets to get me out of the nightmare, I found on line and in the books I read. An amazing specialist. Proff David Baggualey - search for him on line.
I then noticed he was co author of a book on the subject I was using get my mind around this endless debilitating noise. I paid and had all the tests and began the mindfulness journey that your family member will need to do.
Do you think going private will find the “cure”, no chance is my response, all that will happen is that you will be relieved of xxxx amount of £s, call me cynical, daft, stupid whatever, see the gp, probably already have, refer to ENT, probably already have, refer on to audiology, probably already have, with no progress, however in answer to your question I do not know if anyone private who CAN help, you will find folk on here been to , acupuncture, counseling,et al, some may have benifited,, good luck in your quest sadly no easy answer here or cure, please be careful of your £s, hope some can be more positive to your question.
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'm sure you can imagine when you are desperate to find answers, you are willing to explore every avenue. I work for the NHS and love it, but equally when a family member is in pain and you can see the delays in the NHS understandably being in a pandemic, it does make you wonder if going private may be a possible solution. Again, thank you for your time.
I worked all my life as a nurse in nhs and I am not against private healthcare, but in this case please don’t waste your money, having T is not pleasant and not only the person but significant others are affected, right now there is no known cure but plenty of tips available as to how to live with it, most of us on here have been to hell and back, the good thing is BACK,, it can be done, I wish you all the best and feel free to ask me anything you want, I have been as far as the “dark side” I am sure you can figure out what that means do if I and others can help please don’t hesitate to.
I should add that there is no cure - just sound management techniques- woodentop makes a fair point but I know what it feels like to just be desperate and some of these techniques have certainly helped me
I went to the Tinnitus clinic in Harley Street. The man i saw was more interested in getting off to his lunch appointment but had time to tell me of their thousands of £££’s of services. He prescribed me Clonazepam advising they are not addictive. They helped for a short while reducing anxiety then i had a torid time coming off them.
That said,if there is a physical defect in the ear their range of tests will probably find it so if you can afford it thats fine.
First of all I’m sorry to hear about your family member. Tinnitus can be very distressing so it could have a significant psychological impact on them. Counselling and mindfulness can help with this and so can anti-depressants if they become depressed. Stress and anxiety can make it worse so reducing these is important. However, it’s worth knowing that tinnitus can reduce or go away on its own eventually but it’s impossible to put a timeline in it. Be very wary of any offering a cure! Tinnitus is a symptom rather than a single condition. First thing to check is whether there is any hearing loss - Boots & Specsavers do hearing tests. Have a look at the British Tinnitus Association website for reliable information. Their Take on Tinnitus e-learning is good for anyone new to tinnitus. They also have webchat and a helpline for people needing support although they can’t answer medical questions or make recommendations for specialists. There’s a recording of one of their webinars here m.youtube.com/watch?feature...
BTA - have a look at the ‘information’ section tinnitus.org.uk
BTA also offer monthly live online support groups if your relative would like to talk to other people who understand the experience. tinnitus.org.uk/online-supp...
Hi !! I’m so sorry to hear about your suffering!! I also suffer and am trying everything!!! Acupuncture helped a little but only lasted a day or 2 !! There is a man in Germany with a good site Outringtinnitus which has useful tips and also you can get CBT to help cope with it !! If I discover anything else I’ll post it !! Best of luck !
I too suffer with severe tinnitus, very debilitating, as lots of people have stated there is no cure lots of supposed cures and remedies on line, however what works for one person may not work for another. Do not discount any proposed remedy it may work for your relative. I have been through the NHS system and did not receive anything that worked
