Medication

Hi, Today I’ve had to go to the Dr with yet another chest infection. I have been given antibiotics and prednisone tablets again!

My T started two years ago whilst on the middle of taking the above medications for a chest infection and needless to say it is so bad it has been life changing for me 😔

Due to this I am terrified of taking this medication but I know I need it. I know the advice on this board will be to take what the Dr advises, but if it makes my T worse I just don’t think I can go back to that horrendous place where I was before and struggle out of it again.

Although it is horrendously loud over the top of everything I feel I have just been getting to the place where I feel more normal again and can ignore it.

I really don’t know what to do.

Anyone else been in this situation at all? I would be interested to hear.

Thankyou C

Did you seek advice from the doctor as to whether there were any alternative medications he could give you? Might be worth asking the question.

Hi Curlew, i agree with Ruud1boy. Try to seek an advice as to whether there are alternative medications! If you are not convinced from your doctor, you should visit a new one or more than one.

Please try to stay positive and calm and dont stress yourself too much. I hope only the best for you :)

I'm on medication (Apixaban/Eliquis) that I THINK may be causing my tinnitus, at least my T coincided with commencement of taking the drug. So it's not certain. But I can't stop taking the drug, but there are alternatives although not exactly the same, so I'm going to ask for a change. I'm not keen to change but the T is getting louder so it's going up in priority. At least a change will also tell me whether it's the drug or not as the others are totally different.

I hope you have an alternative available as well. Certainly worth asking if you haven't already.

Hi Curlew I am having prednisone at the moment and it has increased tinnitus to an extent I have not been before. I know it is due to prednisone as I was without prednisone in December, and here tinnitus was not so bad. Maybe your doctor can prescribe other kinds of prednisone, ex. Budenofalk, which does not have the same side effects as prednisone.

Thankyou everyone for your kind replies. I have increased my inhalers at the moment rather than using the antibiotics and prednisone and that seems to be helping.my T seemed to be really bad initially when I used my inhalers but seems to have settled a bit now.

The gp did say not every gp would give me antibiotics but she wanted to ‘play it safe’. Those were the exact words said tome when my T set in!

It’s very difficult to get gp’s to listen properly these days!

There is no patient continuity either!

Well onwards and upwards.

I think a nice Easter egg is about to help 😁😁👍

Hi Curlew,

Glad your getting to a "normal" place again x. Just a thought but perhaps, if your tummy is agreeable...try a natural supplement to ward off the infections in the first place. Garlic, honey and ginger are good for infection fighting and may help ward off the nasties.

You too have a lovely easter
