ETD and medication

hi everyone. I’ve been told I have ETD so been using steroid nasal spray but it doesn’t seem to be doing much. Any advice and tips would be appreciated. Don’t think it’s the cause of my T. It’s very reactive to all sounds as well at the minute which is causing my anxiety to go through the roof. My doctor prescribed Amitriptyline for sleep and anxiety but I’m nervous to try it. Anybody take Amitriptyline?

thanks Tara

I can’t personally comment on your Eustachian tube disfunction but I think that’s the usual treatment.

Amitrip is often prescribed for anxiety/stress/etc - my next-door neighbour thinks it’s wonderful!

Has he got tinnitus?

We’ve never discussed tinnitus. Prescribed for nerve pain in her case - I mentioned her as she says she she sleeps much better for it. Ami is used for a lot of conditions.

I have ETD and I found great help by using highly skilled acupuncturists. It helps with the sensitivity to noise in the head in a bowl underwater feeling.

Does ETD ever clear up ? Dr said they believe I have it in left ear. I have T for a fee days then it goes but then comes back. I was given a nasal spray and told to steam twice a day ? Any tips

I don’t know! I’m pretty sure I developed it after taking Benadryl for sleep for a very long time. I’ve had it for almost 10 years now some days it’s worse than others. My T also shifts around a lot. It is just the strangest set of conditions…

Hi! I think there is a link between ETD and T. I have been given a steroid natal spray for my rhinoallergy that makes its presence periodically. I’ve noticed that during the treatment for my staphylicocus aureus my darling T is down.

There are special movements done for ETD. Search on U tube., especially the Chinese therapists are good. I practise the exercises almost daily.

My T is quite loud but I have managed to habituate with it. I take Betaserc daily. From time to time I take Magnesium or Complex B . I’ m attentive to the intake of salt(down) and colesterol level and I keep a kind of (😅) diet.

Good health!

Hello. I take 20 mg of Amitryptiline daily. Have been on it a number of months. It’s for my nerve pain. I find it ok. Doesn’t affect my T. Hope this helps.

Hi Lakeshiker

Amitryptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant - it is prescribed for pain management and migraine in lower dosages than are used in the treatment of depressive illness.

We wouldn't say that it is proven to helpful in treating tinnitus - tinnitus.org.uk/tinnitus-tr.... - based on the studies carried out to date.

Lucky as amitryptiline annoys my T and can’t find anything to help with my neuropathic pain

I’m a bit worried it will increase my T

Nothing helps my pain as I have causa equina syndrome it’s excruciating. So I do understand.

I just had to google ETD to find out what it is. Sorry I'm so out of touch! I do suffer from tinnitus, had it since March 2016. Investigations into that led to the chance finding of a large brain aneurysm (unconnected with tinnitus). Major brain surgery sorted that out, but I was left with understandable issues. Unconnected again, I had a stroke a year and a bit after, which has added to my issues. Various meds and physio to help sort me out and Amitriptyline is something I've been on for several months, prescribed that for pain from osteoarthritis. My tinnitus is still the same, but I hope Amitriptyline helps you.

I’ve been prescribed it for sleep and anxiety, does it help you sleep? My T is very loud and causing me a lot of stress

My fiancé hasn't been disturbed by me thrashing around with pain and I haven't been waking so much with pain since I started taking the drug, so it must be helping me sleep. Tinnitus is awful and can cause stress then I guess stress makes it louder, or at least makes us even more aware of it. I really hope the Amitriptyline helps you.

I’m not into pills so I’d caution against taking anything for sleep/anxiety other than prescribing exercise. A morning and afternoon walk for as little as 15 mins will help both conditions. Seek out mindfulness and meditation classes. Many are online. Change your diet to the Mediterranean and up water to 2x litres a day. Get a good book and read a chapter in bed to help you get off to sleep. Deep breathing via diaphragm also helps with sleep and anxiety. Do that for six weeks then decide whether pills are needed. Once on them getting off ‘em causes more stress and anxiety, in my experience. Sending you a virtual hug.

As I understand the problem, you have a lot of draining? If this is so, I recently discovered the reason for all of my draining despite allergy meds, avoiding foods I am allergic food per testing, antihistamines, steroids, Sudafed, etc.

Due to my own research, I found the answer. In my quest to continue improving my diet, I discovered that my diet was high in histamine. Nightshades andfermenting veggies were my biggies plus many others. Draining is now under control!
