Tinnitus apps

Good morning everyone!

Does anyone here use an app for tinnitus? Which one did you use? Did you find it helpful?

If you don't use an app, why is that? Too much choice? You didn't know there was such a thing? No smart phone?

I'd be interested to hear your experiences!

Warmest wishes

Hi Nic, I do not have a smart phone but I did not realise there was any apps for tinnitus. However, I do have two touch screen tablets, one is an Android and the other has Windows 8 installed, can I use the apps on these?

You should be able to Swindonian - do you have the Google Play Store on your tablet? That's where you'll find the apps.

Well, different apps do different things - some are purely sound, some have relaxation or guided meditation exercises, some have information - and some are a combination.

I started using 'White Noise' and it offers a variety of sounds to choose from. I found a few that come close to matching my T. When I play them, they turn the monotonous whine into something more natural, so it doesn't bother me so much. The sounds are from nature, with a variety of other nature sounds included. There is also a timer, so you don't need to run it all night if you go to sleep with it.

Yes I use this one too and use a pillow speaker from my iPad it’s been a life saver for me as I need sound in my left ear all the time to stop my spasm type loud hum from starting up, I find the running stream or the heavy rain works well 👍🏻

Hi Nic,

Tinnitus Therapy Lite

I use this app when away from home - I choose the rainfall sound which is on all night and helps with restful sleep.

I have an iPhone 5S

I use Chillax and Sound Oasis on my iPhone SE at night which helps me to relax when I’m in bed. The “waves” sounds on Chillax suit me better than others as I find the noises of waves crashing on a sea shore to be therapeutic. During daylight hours I have white noise sounds all day in my hearing aids. I hope this helps you!

Hi Nic I also have the White noise lite app on my iPad and android phone. There are lots of different sounds and a night clock which can be timed if you want .

I use the 'SoundOasis' and 'myNoise' apps on iPhone. I think it's a case of trying a few until you find the one you like.

I haven't used one as yet, as I didn't really see what the benefit was if it's just a library of sounds. When I'm in bed I have my SoundOasis thing on, when I'm pottering at home I have the radio on and when I'm at work or out and about there's just general ambient noise.

I didn't realise however that some of them had guided meditation / relaxation exercises - any good ones people?

I use Relaxio - the train on a track - at night and if I need help during the day at my desk I use the cat purring on White Noise Lite. Like the timer function on both. Don't like the train on White Noise Lite for some reason. I use two different sounds as I think I might fall asleep at my desk if I use the same!! I've tried lots of different sounds on each but these two seem to have the right rhythm to match my PT at the minute.

I also sometimes use Calm and Headspace for guided meditations and have recently completed a free online course on Mindfulness through Futurelearn which also had downloadable guided meditations. I use whichever I feel would be best at the time.

I've also taken classes on meditation run locally by a Buddhist monk designed to help people get an insight into meditation rather than Buddhism.

I noticed on our Google analytics that we are getting some traffic from Futurelearn to our mindfulness pages - I don't think you were the only one taking the course that has tinnitus, JEHSPORT.

Hi Inc,

I initially tried a free app on my iphone but it kept crashing. I have since been using the app "Tinnitus Help" as it had some good reviews. It offers a choice of sounds which you can also mix with your own music. For me it just gives me something different to listen to until I stop using it, then it's straight back to the tinnitus. Still, a brief respite is better than nothing.

Respectfully submitted,

Keoni

Hi Nic,

Check out richard8 recent post. This coroberates the concerns that first brought me to your site through a related search.

I’ve been investigating the subject since my incident occurred and have discovered some things all T sufferers should be aware of.

If you have T, wear ear muffs when getting scans. Scanning has become a profitable protocol for T, but it’s “KNOWN RISKS” outway the Known Rewards.

I created a free app that I use myself for sleeping, called RELAXIFY on Google's Play store (sorry, no iPhone version yet). That is good for masking tinnitus - but for targeted therapy of tinnitus, I created an app which employs a technique called 'spectrally notched audio therapy' to actually treat tonal tinnitus. This is available for Android is you'll find it by searching for "Tinnitus Therapy - Stop the ringing in your ears". The purpose of this app is not simply to mask tinnitus sounds, but to induce retraining by playing pink noise with the frequency of your tinnitus filtered out. The app is not free, sorry, but it is on sale this week.
