Does anyone have a GP that understands thyroid ... - Thyroid UK
Does anyone have a GP that understands thyroid problems?
If they graduated before the 1960's as they were trained in diagnosing by clinical symptoms alone.
Thyroid gland blood tests were just being introduced so now, instead of using that to assist, you are diagnosed according to the blood test alone - clinical symptoms appear to have gone out the window.
After seeing 3 other doctors at my surgery who all said my TSH was normal, I finally saw a 3rd a few weeks ago who shocked me by saying the following when my last test came in at 2.9 'I think we need to get it a little lower as the literature suggests mose people feel at their best below this..and what about your symptoms...we need to go by them'. I nearly fell off my chair! Safe to say I will only be seeing him from now on!
Yes I do and I feel very luck that I do!
Sometimes I wonder if it helps if they or someone close to them has thyroid issues.
Anyway, the fact that I have a great GP has kept me in this area- I'm too scared to move out of the area in case I then get a non understanding GP lol.
