Before the TSH blood test came into use, patients used to take between 200mcg and 400mcg daily.

Hi Make sure your vit D is well in range. If not have a calcium test and then D, if possible under an endo or GP. Retests after 3 months and dose adjusted as needed.

\Hi Paul, If you do not feel well then you need sufficient treatment re thyroid to feel OK.Your GP should do all these tests, if asked. Mostly the thyroid tests need retesting 3 monthly, or more if you think you have a problem The vit D, B12 and Foliates, iron/ferritin and glucose annually with thyroid disease. If not seeing an endo be sure to have these tested. The,if not getting right insist on seeing a good endo, of your choice not the GP`s, research first.

When I was first having thyroid problems there were no on line blood tests or thyroid info, no WEB or TUK. I think it would help you if you read all the TUK info on the main site, studying!!!

I hope that is a help, anything else do get back to me.

To be honest most people with hypothyroidism or underactive thyroid never see an endocrinologist as your GP looks after you and can order any blood test needed such as vitamin D.

Overactive people or those with hyperthyroidism are usually sent to an endo as it can be more complicated.

Of course some hypo's get to see an endo by asking repeatedly and from what I have seen do not get much help from most of them unless they go private.

Good luck either way.

yes mine ache all the time -more in the eve' and I feel like I can't hold my head up as my neck and shoulders hurt and my upper body as my back gives me gip, then my wrists and thumbs in particular hurt from the moment I get up to the moment I go to bed-awful isn't it? I found one days break from usual housework helped (just went to see my elderly mother) made a bit of difference, also I've noticed a small difference since I stopped pilates once a week.I'm sure the latter must have helped my core muscles a bit, only a bit but it helped. I'm supposed to be under control at the moment -still taking methotrexate though!
