That is really interesting! Thanks for posting
Very interesting. How many of us, I wonder, have ever had our neck palpated to check our thyroid gland status?
I have, many times by many doctors. And they poke and prod to find it because it's all shrivelled up and dead and they're expecting a goitre! And I hate it!!! I hate anyone or anything touching my neck. At school we had to wear hats with elastic under the chin and it was a nightmare! lol
Right, have done the exam as shown in the video, and also got hubby to check too, am I supposed to be able to feel the butterfly so clearly?? Seriously, even though I am overweight, both hubby and I could feel the butterfly!!!

Good link, thanks!
I did have a thyroid ultrasound but no doc has ever done a 'hands on' examination. I get the feeling most wouldn't actually know how to.
Was the ultrasound useful, did it show anything ? I imagine it would be more useful than an examination. Just curious.
If I recall correctly, it showed that my thyroid had been badly inflamed. Which was no surprise to me, considering how sore and tender my neck had been for a very long time!
I actually think if anyone had tried to do a physical neck examination on me a few years back, they'd have been in danger of a smack in the face because everything was so sensitive and tender! I can and do now wear lightweight scarves and necklaces again, but it took a very long time for me to be able to tolerate anything around my neck. I still can't do polo neck tops and always stick to the lower cut necklines.
Thanks redapple,
I think I would prefer an ultra sound if it was needed, dosen't sound like they do these palpitations these days.
Good luck, I had one done abroad, brought it back along with blood results, showed it to my GP (who is a good GP) and he said that I should give the blood results to the receptionist to add to my file but not bother with the ultrasound as no-one could read them!!!!!
Oh dear !
Looks like only endos can do palpating and read scans then.
Perhaps yours will come in useful with an endo?
Unfortunately I'm yet to get a referral ...at least my GP is willing to treat and, after getting the list sent through from here of sympathetic endos I don't think there's much chance of me getting a good one...none in or around my area
I have just moved to France. So off to the Dr I went I am on 50mg of Levo and still have symptoms. Dr did the usual blood pressure, checked heart etc. Then to my surprise he started to feel around my thyroid which was very tender on one side. He has sent me straight for blood tests. You go to a lab here and the Dr gets the results and you also get your own personal copy sent to you. Waiting to see what my levels are hoping he will up my meds as so achey and tired again.
