Anyone have pitting of their fingers?

I'm a bit concerned as I have developed some strange symptoms over the last couple of days when I press my fingertips they stay indented and becoming totally flat! What does it mean. Think it's called pitting x

Hi That sounds like Oedema, fluid retention. How are your ankles, tum? Do you use your hands a lot? Could it be fluid retention all over, Tum is called Ascites. Do you drink plenty, especially water? it is very important for fluid retention, kidneys too.If it does not improve see GP about diuretics, fluid even more important if on diuretics.if you retain a lot of fluid, we tell by weighing oneself every morning, same time. If fluid a concern the weight goes up by 2 to 3 pounds a time.ie over night, not nice!Weight increase from food does ot ever go up like that.

I hope that helps.

thanks for your thoughtful reply jackie .yes I have been suffering from fluid retention in my ankles and legs for a little while now and my stomach is terrible . I am always thirsty and drink a lot of tea but not a huge amount of water although I always go to bed with a glass of water .I am going to make much more effort to drink more water from today onwards ,the only other thing I was thinking was that for the last 4 days I have started taking a whey protein drink in the morning to increase my protein I'm wondering if that had an effect on meI?

Hi tingles,

I doubt it but it can be under treated thyroid. However, make sure your U`s and E`s ( kidney function ) are Ok as very important.Potassium ideally should be about 4, what ever the range as they only alter slightly. If it does not improve ,especially if not disappearing over night, Then, you need diuretics, GP. However, depends on your GP. I would ask to see specialists to rule out heart, kidney etc. If a good GP that should be OK, however, fluid retention usually happens for a reason. it may be kidney function or Mitral Valve. it will not be too serious as I put on 2 stone in fluid at a time, in spite of being on twice the RD of diuretics. this is unusual and just because I am so ill.

I hope that helps, try simple measure like water first, on diuretics plenty of water vital!

Best wishes,

jackie

Hi I have always had this and thought it was just because slightly dehydrated!

Have you? Do you retain water as Jackie has suggested it could be part of that? I don't like it, just another thing that shows me my body is not working properly:-(

Hi Tingles, no I don't have any obvious fluid issues. No swelling or anything like that but definitely have flat fingers when pressed and think I have for years.have never been a water drinker either, loads of tea, coffee but alas not water.I have tried upping intake but nothing happened,so I just ignore it! Hope you get answers to your issue.

Tingles, I realise this is an older thread and wondering if you've gotten to the bottom of your symptoms? I wanted to mention that the abdominal ascites, ankle fluid retention, etc., can be indication of cancer. It was the warning signs for my late grandmother, along with uronary urgency at times, and some stomach/bathroom upsets. I hope you are well and your symptoms do not indicate anything of the same nature, but if you haven't resolved them, I would urge you to consult with an obgyn familiar with oncology just to be certain. They can screen with a ca125 and other tests, as well as running analysis on the fluids themselves. Be well.

Hi there. I know this is an old post but I was looking for info on why finger tips remain indented? I showed this to my rheumatologist and she just pulled a peculiar face, saying o I don’t know what that is.I’ve had numerous bloods/checks for various reasons in the last 6 months. Although symptoms have been ongoing the last couple years +

I had to provide 2 stool samples. FIT came back clear but the calprotectin showed inflammation. Interesting you say about the CA125, as they added that blood test to my U & E’s yesterday

I hadn’t even given that a thought but most of the symptoms. Awaiting the results now
