Just got home from the hospital and have been told I have gallstones. Could this be connected to my thyroid failing?

Gallstones
hi Starlight
I had to have my gallbladder removed 10 years ago. I was put on the pill as a form of treatment for pcos, and it caused gallstones which was one of the warnings on the packet!!
To avoid attacks you need to follow a very low fat diet, less than 5 grams fat per 100grams product so check all labels, and avoid spicy food too as the gallbladder squirts more acid out to dissolve fats and spices, and with stones being in the gallbladder when it contracts it catches on the stones and it hurts like holy fk!!! It was like having labour under my ribs!!
I lost 3 stone in 3 months following the diet. I was hoping to avoid surgery but no, I had a stone stuck in the duct so had no choice.
There will be someone along that would be able to say whether it can be connected to thyroid problems or not. I was not symptomatic in anyway when I had my gall problems.

Earth Clinic - have very interesting thoughts on gallstone diet and treatment.
Karen Hurd - also interesting articles.
In my own experience....you need first to try and eliminate any attacks and following a low-fat and high fibre diet will help. Increasing and thinning bile will also help.
Have a read of the websites and see if they offer you any additional help.
Hi Gall bladder disease is autoimmune, so if you have autoimmune ( Hashimoto or Graves ) you are likely to have lots of other autoimmune diseases. if taking vit D ,make sure that your calcium is in range, there is a connection. Also make sure you have the surgery,, if diet does not help. mostly key hole, as otherwise it can become an emergency.
Best wishes,
Jackie
Sorry, didn't actually answer your question....
Thyroid and wonky thyroids are related...irrelevant whether it is hypo or hyper....and not related to a thyroid failing...although not sure what you mean here.
It is the body's inability to process cholesterol...and can also be extreme weight loss/gain/stress.
You will need to carefully monitor the situation if you are going to try with diet - to make sure stones are not increasing or reducing.
Diet will help a great deal.
I’m interested in this as I was also diagnosed with multiple gallstones yesterday and have thyroid issues. Hashimotos too.
