Hi All...
I wonder if anyone on here has had to get their own iron testing done? I mean the full panel to determine iron status. My GP is only testing for Ferritin.
Any advice?
Cheers

Most labs seem to do only some of the possible tests.
The combination of changing understanding of the science, technology of the tests, costs, etc., result in the precise range of tests at any particular lab likely being different to those at other labs even nearby.
I think that you need to decide which combinations would be acceptable to you. Then decide how to get them.

The main Thyroid UK has a list of private labs;

So no iron panel as you know then Rod? Will be costly getting individual tests for iron, won't it?
I didn't mean to say there were NO groups of tests - but that there is not one standard "everything" panel.
For example:
This excellent Iron status profile includes Iron, TIBC and Ferritin. The % saturation can then be calculated from these values..
£75.75

(But do order through the Thyroid UK link above. Go to Blue Horizon then the home blood tests link.)
Expensive or not depends on your resources!

wow, £75...thats a lot of money hey! :0/ mind you, its all a lot of money! I'm considering the stool analyst test and that will end up being £200 odd.
NEVER get ill....i say! lol

Hi - yep I need to keep check on Iron & NHS GP like yours will only do Ferritin.
Does anyone know if this is a general trend within the NHS, or does it
depend what NHS GP you see in whatever area ?
