Can't follow links

Can anyone tell me why, when I click on links that lead to the Thyroid UK site it will not open them. It just says the website is unable to display the web page.

I am having no problems. Indeed, I have specifically checked the Thyroid UK web site.

Could you try clicking on this link:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/index....

And would you help us to help you - which link are you clicking? Where is there a failing link?

Do bear in mind that, from time to time, problems with the Internet mean things don't work 100%. So even when the sites themselves are fine, trying to connect from some computers might not work for a while.

Thanks helvella. I get this when I click on that link (and any others):

The website is unable to display the webpage

HTTP 501/HTTP 505

What you can try:

Go back to the previous page.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing to do with this site but more to do with the settings on my computer and wondered if anyone knew what I could do.

I emailed Louise on 25 February which was a couple of days after the problem started.

'Our weblady has said that there seems to be some sort of funny DNS thing somewhere (I have no idea what this means!) so this is not our fault. Sorry! L' but I still can't access the links. Any ideas?

I can access Thyroid UK if I go straight into the site.

Can you give us some details of your computer set-up. For example, if you're using Windows, which version. And what browser and version do you use?

Yes. Windows 7 Internet Explorer 9. I am wondering if it is something to do with IE9 as it is only since I upgraded to this that I have had problems.

I'm not really a Windows / IE user, so not sure how to actually do this but... have you tried clearing your cache, cookies etc?

And if you haven't done so recently, perhaps doing Windows Update might help. It's possible it's a security hiccup that's been fixed in a more recent update.

Just some ideas :)

Oh, and I believe if you do a Windows Update, you might get offered to upgrade to IE 10. That might side step any IE9 issues you're having!

This link (hope it works!) has clear instructions for clearing your IE cache - which might help:

kb.wisc.edu/page.php?id=15141

Do get back if it does not work.

Hooray! Working now. Thank you helvella and Red Apple. A few scary moments when google kept telling me I needed to sign in with them and I couldn't, but reset my password and all is working as it should now. Thanks very much indeed.

Good news!

Having done a bit of research, looks likely due to your anti-virus or security software. That is the only area that seems a common cause of these errors while other sites work fine.

Have you applied updates recently?

Difficult to know whether it is best to try going forward with latest updates or not! (Of anti-virus/security or Windows.)
