I have looked at this book but I didn't find it very helpful to be honest. I think Dr Peatfield's book is much better and he talks about eating a low carb diet for 5 days then eating normally for two days. There are some of us out there with hypothyroidism who are finding grains are a big culprit for us in gaining weight around our middles (myself included) -providing of course you are being optimally treated for hypothroidism. I cut my grains down very low -porridge for breakfast and no other grains and low and behold have lost 9" of my waist -coupled with daily exercise. Am trying to remember the author of the The Wheat Belly Book....its' upsatirs somewhere but it is worth a read. Will have a nosey for it for you... xx
Thanks for those links as well.... One of the worrying things for me, particularly, is that my waist to hip ratio (which the WHO reports is one of the better indicators - better than just BMI - for risk of heart disease) went from 0.78 to 0.85 (within a matter of 6-8 weeks) - with 0.85 being on the borderline of abdominal obesity! And that from someone who had a BMI of 19.8!
I am learning so much from the references posted on this site!
yes that was my problem -my waist/ hip ratio was very small difference. Since cutting my grains right down (apart from a measured portion at Breakfast) i ahve now lost nearly 10" of my waist -just keeps dropping off! I wouldnot do the Atkins diet -he has very minimal carbs and includes fruit and vegs in this. I do not limit my verg but restrict fruit to 2-3 pieces per day. My natural shape orignally before my thyroid days was a tom boy -that is am not a pear -the apple shape crept in when my thyroid problems started.
Now wouldn't it be interresting to start a poll on body shapes before and now? I wonder how many of us end up with apple shapes once developing hypothyrodism....just a thought.
This book was the first one I read when I started doing my own research into my hypothyroid problem. It is not very good. Dr Peatfield's book is much better.
