Hi Well I only had treatment on a script when mine was 5 after 2 tests! However with those results I agree with you it is fairly safe to give it a try. Spatone, Holland and Barrat or Amazon, is the recommended choice by my endo.

Best wishes,

jackie

Hi freelod,

I had my Ferritin results back last month, mine was 24 with about same range, Endo said that he would not give supplement till he checked it again in July! as he thought perhaps my body had infection at that time!! so I told my GP that I was going to supplement myself and she said she would give me a B/test in few months. owing to the problem I have taking iron I researched on Amazon and found Solgar gentle iron 20 mg caps, I have been taking them now for 3 wks just one a day and they seem very easy to take but at this time I can't tell you how they are working, but they aren't hard to take. Hope this helps you choose, keep well.

Regards wakeham.

The ONLY supplements that helped to raise my ferritin levels are the following (can find both on Amazon):

Ferrex 150 Polysaccharide-iron complex

Ferritin Bioavailable Iron 5 mg

I take two capsules of each per day with no stomach upset. I was able to raise my ferritin from 17 to 47 in 9 weeks. For years I tried all sorts of iron supplements and no matter what I took, my ferritin level kept dropping. I've only had succes with the Ferrex 150 and the Fertitin Bioavailable combo. Neither are expensive and for me this combination worked quickly and have made me feel better.

Some background: I am hypothyroid and I have lupus and Sjogrens. All diagnosed within the last 8 months. (Currently on Tirosint and compounded slow-release T3 for hypo and Plaquenil for the two AI disorders).

Before diagnosed, I had a very high fitness level and despite my recent diagnoses, I've tried to maintain the same level. Some days good, some not. When my endurance really began to wane and my legs would feel "heavy" during cardio and I would be out of breath during weight training sessions, I knew something was wrong. As my ferritin and iron levels kept dropping, doctors kept telling me I was "fine" and that my numbers were "within range". I knew I was NOT fine so I did research and started supplementing on my own. It took me over a year to find the right supplements that actually began to raise my levels. Good luck!
